And by the sounds of it avoid other cars or people as those wouldn't be covered either. Third party risks would far outweigh the risk of damage to my car in my mind. Confused

Afternoon,

I have been back to our underwriters to confirm the point on 3rd party property damage on private land. They have agreed that we can use their standard private car wording rather than the off road.

The wording as follows:

Third Party Property Damage Limit
The most we will pay for property damage for
any one claim, or series of claims arising out
of any one event is £20,000,000. The most we
will pay in costs for any one property damage
claim or series of property damage claims
arising out of any one event is £5,000,000.

Which basically means they will cover you on private land for both your damage and 3rd Party damage.

Every insurance company may have different wording to this, so well worth checking.

Glad I could get this confirmed for you all.

Kind Regards

Steve

Thanks for the clarification Steve. As you may have seen from my last PM LRI have reconfirmed to me also that they provide full cover whether on or off road.

It is good to know that A-Plan Insurance are also able to offer this as in previous years site users had considerable trouble finding insurers that provide true off road cover. I will certainly be in touch for a quote at renewal time. Smile Thumbs Up

Just got a quote and changed to A plan for my house insurance, rang and asked for a quote and was given a very competative quote with better cover than I have now. The service and responce was excellent and I am well impressed so far. Will look at the car insurance when it is due next year. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Hi Darren,

We have a number of different underwriters, depending on the risk profile location age etc.

The main ones we use for 4x4 includes, Axa, Liverpool Victoria, Highway, Service, Markerstudy, Aviva and groupama.

We lean towards service and markerstudy if lots of modifications are involved as these insurers are more flexible and will also replace on a like for like basis.

Hope this helps

Steve

G4 Insurance Cover

Hi Steve,

An you shed any light on whether your underwriters would class a Discovery 3 G4 Vehicle as modified or not as it came from the factory with extras fitted "as standard" such as:

Raised Air Intake, rear ladder, expedition roofrack, 4 x hella LED/Xenon roof lights, LR winch bumper, warn winch, underbody armour, MTR tyres

The reason I ask the question is that most insurers I speak to class these as aftermarket mods, rather than standard fitment.

Hi, The G4 always raises a few questions!

All vehicles are rated on an "ABI" code. The code gives the insurers the correct vehicle model so they can rate correctly.

The G4 has its own ABI code and the specification is standard. The only time this "Should" need to be referred is if any further modifications have been made to the G4 Spec.

We see and hear about all sorts of problems insuring G4s and the like due to not all insurers understand the model and rate on a standard disco spec and have not used the correct ABI code.

If your policy document states G4 then it should all be insured correctly if no further changes have been made.

Best bet is to speak to a specialist broker, such as us and all will be covered correctly.

I hope this helps

Steve
