Hi I tow mine with it, you probably had to change your last towball to one that had a larger gape. The detachable bar is a swan neck type so doesn't need it. Only thing I would point out is if you are looking to carry bikes and tow at the same time with this bar then forget it, you'll need the HD one which is a bit ugly (sorry ) DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Yep, I can confirm that the HD is bit unsightly, but it is great for off roading, saves the rear end a treat.

Just remember to clean the ball after possibly giving it a light rub with wet & dry paper as your alko instructions recommend so you get some friction.

The detachable tow ball simply slots in a job you do. So the cost is just for the swan neck, the rest is fitted by the factory, other than the wiring. The wiring is a plug in jobby basically after removing the rear n/s lights.
Dealer will more than likely charge about £200 plus.
Try to get the German harness though as it cuts out the intensity lights when the trailer is fitted.

Shawn,
One piece of advise I would give is to rub off the black paint off the detachable towball with a fine sand paper, otherwise the alko stabiliser pads can be come contaminated as it rubs the paint off itself.
I know that Alko released information on making sure that the ball is paint free on any car some time back.
Hope this helps.
Marc Disco 3 now gone!!
Discovery 3 S spec 2.7 V6 Diesel.
Previous Car to D3: Seat Leon Cupra R with a nice 280 bhp...... Sad to see it go
