V8 - no coolant bleeder T-piece?
Just doing a (my first) 70,000 mile service on the D3 and as I'm refilling the coolant I thought I'd get a new bleeder T-piece as they have a reputation. Only thing is, looking at my engine, I can't see one - was it a later addition (mine's a 2005 MY).
I think it should be up near the thermostat housing?
Second question, assuming it is not-present, is as I have a new one in it's package, should I cut the hose and fit it? I'm assuming the engine will be easier to bleed with it present?
TIA.
AC.

I wouldn’t cut hoses.
Just remove the spring clip on a small hose.
Carefully remove the hose.
Push it back on a tiny bit.
Fill coolant.
Pull hose off to bleed as necessary.

Agreed - it doesn’t seem to be present in your picture. It is supposed to be on the hose that comes down on top of the throttle body to the right of the air intake, the one that kind of looks like a hook).
Perhaps the previous owner has replaced it or the hose sometime in the past? I thought it existed on all V8s.

Thanks guys - agreed, no point introducing a weak spot when it's not there, I'll burp it through one of the existing hoses.
Odd that it's not there - car only had one previous owner and full LR service history, so I don't think anyone has modified it...

Here's the expansion tank - there does seem to be a bleed valve on the top of it.

I think that small pipe going to the back, may help bleed the engine.
They tend to fit those small manual bleed valves, when they are too lazy to fit small pipes that do it automatically

Thanks, I'm going to give it a go this afternoon. Hopefully it'll be less messy than the oil change this morning!

Where did you get the replacement T piece from? Mine has a weep and the local dealer told me i only comes as a complete hose assembly at some astronomical cost so was going to just put a joiner in, but if you have a source I may do it properly (or indeed if you want to flog your now redundant one.....)

Suuuuuure........... dealer clearly knows. Or not.
The part is LR027661. I paid 5 eur 60 cents including VAT for mine (genuine). You should be able to get it from any LR part selling business. Except your dealer, of course
So advanced factors (1), Rimmer Bros (2), etc. all should have it in stock or be able to buy it from JLR.
Edit: many Americans seem to swear by the falconworks (3) metal one but the price is 11x to what I paid. It’s also possible to construct one yourself but where you’d get the metal parts in U.K. I’m not sure.

It was about £4 from Island 4x4. PM me your address and I'll drop it in the post to you, otherwise it'll just end-up in my pile of 'useful Land Rover bits'!

As far as I know, some early one doesn’t have that T... mine is same as yours. T would help you bleed the coolant faster than just that screw valve if you read the cooling diagram. I did mine years ago, it was really slow only with the valve open.
