Hi Giacomo,

I don't know and the UK knowledge of D3 DPFs is a bit limited as they were never fitted to UK spec cars.

it's in the owners manual. You have to drive for 20 minutes and revs > 2500 or something like that. Had it on holiday this summer, put it in manual, 3rd gear, nice stretch of road and all set after a while.

Hi Giacomo,

I don't think, that you can "force" the cleaning procedure with the hawkeye. For this you have to go to deep into the car technics. I've got the problem here in Cameroun as well and think about cleaning the DPF with a DPF cleaning spray / fluid. I think my filter is due to the bad Diesel quality here in Central Africa allready so fully loaded, that I'll try an "external"solution.
By the way, a salesman from Germany told me, that the Britpart Lynx Diagnose Tool could do the force of cleaning the DPF, but I'm not really sure. I haven't found anything in the internet or here in the Forum which convinced me to buy this tool.

Hi CamerunD3

I do not think the seller from Germany, also because the hawkeye tool is able to better analyze the electronics of the D3.
I'm curious to know if with DPF cleaning spray solve the problem
thank you

DPF function - not quite off topic!!

hi all. The official term should be regeration of the DPF. Most of these units are closed end filters and in the course of normall operation they trap the soot from combustion in these closed end filter tubes. Eventually these tubes fill up and you have to clean them by essentially burning the soot at a very high temp. (Over 600deg c in a CAT industrial engine for example) that is why the Land Rover -and many others advise a certain run time with high engine speed- it's all about increasing the exhaust temperature to the point where the soot can be burnt back to ash which has a greatly reduced volume.

Ultimately the DPF becomes full of ash and at this point it is either fit new or you can try the chemical cleaner- no experience of this but I understand it can work in some cases.

The tricky bit is running for a long distance at high rpm- a job for command shift and a motorway run. If the temp drops the regeneration is cancelled and you have to start again.

Caution with forced re gens. iSTR Volvo took this function away from dealers after cars caught fire in the workshop. You really need airflow over the DPF to keep the process half sensible- not so much of an issue in a D3 because of the height but be careful anyway Thumbs Up
