Yup - mine does the old "dim - no....don't dim" routine. I must admit to thinking it has something to do with temperature. The screen always settles down once the cabin has warmed up. 10 - have you got the inside track on this one? 2006 TDV6 HSE

If you shine a torch at the two little square things at the bottom of the rev counter you will see what I mean. Do it at night, and you will see how dim your sat nav is compared to daylight mode.

Also had this issue - but only when it's really cold (below zero), it seems... and then after a while when the D3 is warmed up, everything's normal again.

Its a of a fix if you need the sensor changing - the little sensor is all part of a complete unit and in my case was three day job.
Still having problems with it...there seems to be no acceptable norm for it to settle to. Fiddling with the little dimmer by the headlight switch is a compromise, but the next time to start the vehicle, you have to fiddle again. D3 HSE V8...

The screen always settles down once the cabin has warmed up. 10 - have you got the inside track on this one? The screen is exactly the same as a PC LCD screen, it uses a fluroescent backlight. These do not like low temperatures at strike-up, hence the reason why they always start off at full brightness until they have 'warmed up' at that point, the dimming function is fully enabled. If the temperature is still low when the light sensor tries to dim the backlight, the control gear will attempt a re-strike of the fluroescent lamp hence the bright-dim-bright-dim scenario in cold weather.
This isn't a problem peculiar to Disco3's, more to do with LCD and Fluroescent lighting technology in general

I have the sat nav dimming on the left side of the screen too and the spurious flickering. Can goes back into the dealership again next week to have numerous other faults looked at and the 30k service. I'm only sure of one thing that they will give me a hefty bill at the end. Not so sure that the service or the faults will be d=rectified though. Will update once the sat nav is sorted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully. Keep on a troshin'

I have had the dimming sat nav issue since getting the d3 and have reported it the the servicing dealer at every service. It still dims and the dealer's cant deal with it. Has anyone ever had this issue resolved?

I have has this on my RRS since I had the windscreen replaced. It's been in 3 times without luck but since the 2 year service 1 month ago it has stopped! I have no solution but interesting to hear it's a shared problem. Loving the power of the TDV8!

So you'll be getting that HSE then? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I also have suffered from the dimming Sat Nav Screen. I looked into this in some detail and was advised by LR that it was due to the Responsive Incremental Throughput. This had Parallel Digital Implications associated with the Integrated Reciprocal Framework of the Proto-Policy Time-Phase. This didnt mean much to me but after further investigation I discovered that this in simplistic terms meant that everything was related to Syngenetic Compositional Evolution of the LCD Balanced Nebulous Throughput.
This conclusion is pretty obvious when you think about it Duncan
