Embarassed That looks like the one! Is this what you have bought and if so how easy would it be for a 5'4" wimp to use!

No Pelyma,
I ordered the bike rack for fitting on the towing hook (atera strada 3). My roof is reserved for the kajaks.

Thule EuroClassic Bike Racks

Hi, 90
Could you tell me if I am to late to get in on this. I am just recoveing from an outragous 45000 mile servicing bill where I was told all my brake discs needed replacing. Put back my plans on purchasing a bike rack a bit. I really do need a bargain after that bill. Could you let me know where you got it as I am not far from Leicester.
Ps 45000 miles and new brake discs required is this normal?

Bike Rack Feedback

Well I took the Thule away with the bikes on up to Lewis and Harris in th Western Islands. It did not fall off - that was the first success. The Ferrys (Caledonian Macbrayne) were not bothered by the extra 1.x metres this added to the length of the car. Another success.

However a major problem. Driving around the islands at 40mph (deserted roads with generally good surfaces but not worn as smooth as in the mainland, there was a loud bang and the rear windshield disintegrated. Subsequently looking at the rear bumper, there were a lot of stones up to 1cm sitting on the top of the bumper having obviously been lifted by the rear wheels, hit off the front of the bike rack (chipped) and landed on the tailgate. We just had one unfortunately hit the screen with devastating consequences. Toughened glass is nasty when this happens. I hope the roof is laminated. It took 4 days for Autoglass to find us and fit a screen which is a long time to be driving with black bin bags taped to the car. And it had to be left at the airport for the night like that! Thankfully the crime levels there are low.

So, the moral - anything being towed/carried on the towbar and projecting out of the back can bounce stones back onto the car - not just trailers in the outback. If I had fitted mudflaps this would probably not have happened - next weekend's job. So if you are towing or using ond of these bumper carried racks, consider mudflaps. In addition I am going to get some pipe lagging foam and wrap it around the back of the bike rack to absorb the impact of any more stones.

To make matters worse, when autoglass turned up to fit the screen they had ordered the wrong one, so I am going back tomorrow to have the curren screen removed and a correct one fitted.

No Problem - you will have to ask him nicely Very Happy

Ar5e I have deleted the pm that I sent out to everyone. If you had a rack and still have the PM can you PM it to me or direct. All I ask is that you don't post it on the public forum.
