There's nothing to find in the books about it...

Is it a vent for the steering column?

What's behind this cover?

Is the hole in the cover for ventilating something...what does it ventilate?

It may be a stupid question but i do like to know...

haha.

No seriously... The vent i don't know what it's for but i did take out the cover.
You can symply do that by pulling on the upper side of the cover towards the seat.
The lower part is not clipped on. There are 2 lips that fit in holes on the lower side of the console.

The 'vent' stays in place.

The owners manuals says it's an extra air vent for the driver.
That's it.

if you grovel around

in the space below the cover
& on the floor
you may find one or both clips which can be re used

its where I found mine

Wow Bow down ! I brought my LR3 in 2013 and few days after I saw two little black covers on the floor and never understood if this is a land rover part or not. Now, three years later I know!!!Fantastic! Thanks a lot! Thumbs Up

The vent is Land Rover's high tech solution to avoiding Dr Spooner's Bettty Swollocks syndrome.

Yes!!! Rolling with laughter
Now, I'm trying to remake the broken side clip to put in place and trying to understand where I can fit the metal rod (stuck in a big cover).
