This would make a brilliant diy assembly project kit, especially if the PIC was pre - programmed

Just for info, here's my webasto controller made last year, or at least the bare pcb from it. Mine was made to interface to the telestart remote, but it can also operate from a pushbutton (to do the same as a 1533), and could probably be made to trigger from the lights in the same way as Alex unit does.

I can't remember the exact parts cost, but it was under £15 and I didn't make any particular effort to keep the cost down - it even uses a 32bit micro. I just used parts I had to hand or was familiar with.

Nice work Dave.

Yep, exactly as you suggest. It reads the commands from the telestart, and changes the address to represent the 1533 timer, or the thermo test software. It has its own timer though, and uses a small switch on the back of the board to select the heating time.
The code should be easy to port over if you code C, I used an ST Micro ARM device because I was using them for a work job. I can't write C, the code is embarassingly bad (I'm an RF engineer), but if you promise not to laugh I'll try to dig it out.
One other forum member has the same unit installed - I hope it's still working for him, he hasn't said otherwise.
I've got blank PCBs and probably sets of parts, but no spare time to assemble any more units, or properly document the design, up-issue the pcb etc..
I just dug in the bench to find an assembled board to photograph, and found my homebrew thermotop test interface. It reminded me that the other thing I put in my timer board was a mode to read out the fault code, and clear stored faults - handy if you've been running low on fuel.
Well you’ve got further than me, done projects in assembly but struggle with the comms side. Took early retirement this year, electronics eng at local airport for last 30 years, trying to add c, sure I’ll get there . Got more out of this thread so far than over the last 12 months, so I’ll be watching this like a hawk. Best ever LR110

Update parts arrived, holding first project, using ready built board from fleabay, only cost £7, recompiled Alex's software for 16f648, tacked k line driver chip (£4) underneath, up and running, cheers Alex
Next project, bottom right of photo shows pcb kit and LCD display, fleabay again, £17 all in. Hope to display commands between my telestart T90 and FBH, fault codes etc, this will be longer term project. Most interested in any "c" libraries already written for telestart comms, got some but could save some time if there's any shares going, still on a steep learning curve. Below picky new board already assembled. that's todays little job.

As my 1533 timer has just died anyone who wants a guinny pig I'm available with a soldering iron It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
Finally got mine wired in (The basic original idea). My FBH itself was playing up and not working properly, so I got one from Duckworths (Almost as cheap as the repair kits) and fitted it yesterday.
I fitted it with a GSM "Gate" opener so can ring it up to start it. Programmed it in with a 2.5second closing pulse and works a treat.
Had it fired up this morning and even unlocked the car, replaced the pollen filter and locked the car again and it still just kept running Mark.
