Breakdown exposed problem getting to tow point. |
|
got my d3 back after 3 weeks waiting for part from uk.the fuel pump failed spraying diesel over belts and pipes that then had to be replaced.they had a pump but no timeing belt in oz as they only need to be replaced at 150000klms.i was told this type of failure had not happened before?when i looked for the tow hook in manual i saw it was covered by the plastic shroud protecting the radiator.i have a rover bar fitted and it covers part of the shroud.the driver said they normally just put a sling around the front wheels.not wanting to do anything not in the manual i got the shroud off with much twisting tugging and swearing on the bloody hot tarmac.when i picked up the car the shroud was still off and not in the car.i asked and the service guy walked behind and retrieved the part .he said that it should not have been put back on my car when rover fitted the bar.they could not put it back in case they broke it.the service guy did say that if it was his car he would try to get it back on as there is nothing to stop a stick or rock going through the radiator.just wondered how others have dealt with this problem.if i have to look at buying an aftermarket fix that will work with the bar on i will. regards ian

I've got the LR bar on mine and kept the shield in place, but cut a rectangular hole under the tow point. There is a post on this somewhere, but it is not difficult - just needs a Dremel with cutting disc, or even a sharp knife.
