Upgrading to D4 - what can i get? |
|
I am looking at exchanging my D3 for a D4.
With a buget fo between 25k-30k, is there any model change i should be looking out for.
For example, when did the 8 speed box come in? if i get a lower spec, with higher milage am i able to get the newer gearbox?
also, what does XS have over GS spec?
cheers.

According to Honest John the top of your budget will just get you a 61 reg (MY12) GS model in a private sale. The MY12 was the introduction of the eight speed auto box ISTR.

Bill,
thanks for the fast response, if that is the case it is obviously out of my budget. i therefore think i think i will be looking at at 59 plate XS, with low milage.

I've been considering this, also, with a similar budget to you.
There are one or two early HSEs about with around 50k miles at the top end of your budget. A few more XS's and loads of low-mileage GS's.
Autotrader is your barometer.
Owning a relatively spartan, "S" spec D3, I would be looking at upgrading to either an XS or HSE in order to retain many of the toys that my "S" has.
Nothing wrong with the 6 speed auto and would have no hesitation choosing one of those over the newer 8 speed.

A mate of mine just bought a MY10 HSE for about 29 - 30K with about 45,000 miles, so there are some about.

going from a 2011 3.0 6 speed to a 2013 3.0 8 speed sport admittedly, the difference was noticeable in all areas. I would assume the same is true of a disco.
I wouldn't know if the 2012 disco changed any trim etc - but the infotainment system changed on the sports at 12MY, which was a big difference. Mike

For me the big difference between a D3 and a D4 is the engine and you will notice the different but the change between a D4 6 Auto to a 8 speed is just a step up not a leap.
I didnt really notice any difference between the two gear boxes except i pulled off in reverse few times when i changed over from a 6 to 8 speed
D4 SX 6 speed auto with arm rests and xenon's under 50k miles is what i would be looking well in your buget
happy hunting

I found this, which looks very nice:
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/adv...?logcode=p
it would mean i get the newer gear box
the main differences i notice between this and the xs is no leather, small satnav scree, and no fog lights. what are the other main differences?
i also notice some D4's say 245 and some 255 bhp. did they upgrade the engine? Current -

I went from a D3 HSE to a ex demo D4 STDV 8speed GS but with lots of options Bi-Xeons, Hi Ice Hi-FI Auto lights, winter pack, full touch screen with timed aux heater, metallic, Ipod interface piano black inlay ( basically an XS with options but without the leather) the big- big difference is the power and smoothness of the 8 speed and high torque engine, I'm in the commercial towing business and I get approx. 25% better MPG over the D3. Also the suspension is way better and also so is the braking, difference in my option, The TD5 to D3 250% better D3 to D4 at least 150% better.
But you do pay for it!!!!!!

Added rear camera, Remote heater, fixed tow bar (modified)and 13 pin electrics added centre console cool box, removed 3rd row seats. Installed 2000watt inverter and second battery in near side rear panel
