Hi guys,
I'm a Brit thats a student here in Pretoria and am just about to take the plunge with a 2007 TDV6 with 160km on the clock. She's coming from a dealer and will definitely invest in the warranty.
but two questions.....
firstly, what should i make sure is covered on the warranty, it is Motorite,
and second, what are the basics, recovery wise that i need and where can i get it, don't intend to go heavy offroad, just enough to get me out of the poo. A portable compressor is first as i have smashed ankles and shoulders from being in a car wreck, so cant get the BFG's that are on it off!!!

Yes, for the SA guy that hit me and left me for dead in the car, had had so many beers he couldn't get out of his car!!

I'd be wary of the 2007 model with the well documented oil pump casting failure rate. Yours well be coming up for the timing belt change, if it hasn't been done already,which is widely believed to be the catalyst for failure. Have a good read on here about it before parting with your money. Club Exped trailer

Hi and welcome. I suggest you have it checked out by someone knowlegable. A few names that I can think of quickly that you might have a nice chat with are the following:

Ps you might have difficulty in eaching any of them over the next few days as everyone will be on their way to the annual Landy Festival.

Very sorry to hear that but good to see that it has not dampened your enthusiasm for adventure!
Depending on whether you are going to be travelling solo or in a convoy I would suggest:
1) A very good set of tyres - I have found BFG AT to be very good and resistant to punctures - preferably on 17 inch rims.
2) A good tow rope, tree strop - And some solid recovery points.
3) Unless you are really far off the beaten track, help in terms of extra pairs of hands is often quite readily available so maybe an air jack or similar contraption if you do really need to change a tyre?
A lot of the other off-road stuff looks nice but unless you are really bundu-bashing it just adds weight and/or takes up space IMHO (says the man with a fully kitted out 2007 D3).
How good are the recovery services in SA?

Definitely get it checked out (and get the full history printed from LR based on the VIN), but, bare essentials:
- A decent compressor (72 or 160 L/min at least)
- A decent tyre deflator & gauge
- A decent snatch strap (rated at 8 tons or more)
- Set of booster cables - for if/when your battery dies
- Some training (see if the dealer can't throw in a Land Rover Experience training session)
I have the motorite warranty and its been OK so far, but definitely ensure its had the timing belt service and that the oil pump casing was replaced with the latest version, and that the water inlet manifold has been replaced as it also gets brittle and starts to leak. At that age, also check that the hoses are all in good condition and perhaps check whether the EGR valves have been blanked.
