I think the problem may be that the insurance company could get out of apayout if the boxes arn't ticked.
But sounds like it is a well constructed mod. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Yes - at 7-800 for the LR hitch, to re-make, then destroy - ik!
I guess that's the benefit of a HR etc doing this - they have the $ behind them... that being siad, I do like the modified LR hitch - why didn't they make it like that to start with????
Downside of the modified LR hitch - probably still the same problems with using a load-distribution hitch?
cheers,

Hehe - because that was the best the work experience boy could come up with in the day he was at LR design?

I got an email from HR the other day saying the new towbar (presumably Version 1 with the receiver at the same height as LRs) will go into production soon (part part number is R2387. price about $650.00.)
Has any one heard any news about about the second version which had a higher receiver and still take weight distribution hitches?

HR are waiting on access to a D3 with a long range tank fitted - so they can ensure that their design will be compatible...
Anyone have or know someone with a long range tank fitted that could be used to measure up?
After they have this - they'll be pretty quick to complete design and get to production...
cheers,

I think (based on reading this topic) Hayman Reese is designing the new hitch in Melbourne, so this may not be helpful.
However if they can do measurements/fitting etc in Sydney, I am happy to help out. I have a LRA auxilary tank, and a Kaymar twin wheel carrier. I assume those of you in touch with Hayman Reese will advise here if I can be useful

$650
The one we were looking at would have been less than $500 if we had six or more orders.
Not much to manufacture but the money would need to go into the design and testing. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

CaverD3 - do you have any design concepts/drawings - confirmation of maintainiing the 3.5 tonne load rating etc - would be good to see some of that - then we can all get behind one or the other??
Haggis - I'll check with HR and see if they have a branch in Sydney that could look at your setup...

The design would utilise bothe the LR hitch point and the recovery point so should maintain the tow rating slot for the tongue would be higher.
Prototype would need to be made. He will make two; one for testing to destruction the other to put on a vehicle.
The rating would result from this testing and would need an engineer to approve.
This is where the intial cost could be in the thousands.
A consortium would be needed or deposits for the final item. Or someone would need to take the risk. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

SOunds promising, but I guess would like a "Hayman Reese" to pick up that r&d tab...
Am chasing down some other sources for a measurement vehicle with a long-range tank fitted in melbourne...

At $650 You are alredy paying HR to do the testing.
The manufacture of each unit should be about $200-300 depnding on the production run.
A hitch should suit every vehicle for every trailer. The only way to do this is to have a high entry fot a universal tongue, then you can add your own tow point. I do not think HR are thinking of doing this. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

caverD3 - that's exactly what HR are looking at - a receiver just under the recovery point, under the bumper, to receive whatever type-3 tongue you want to use...
Who is it that you have looking at the hitch?
