G'Day. I know I've been AWOL for a while, but in that time the Mitchell Bros tow bar, Disco3 and TVan have had a work out. There have been a number of small trips and the usual annual desert foray. The highlights of which were:
1. West on the Anne Beadel Highway and East on the Gunbarrel.
We did this ex Sydney (Bourke, Tibooburra, Camerons Corner, down the Streslecki, up the Oodnadatta and out to Cooper Pedy to get on the Anne Beadel. Home was via the Rock, King's Canyon (none of us had been to either of these for at least 8 years), and down the bitumen to Melbourne. From there I choose the mountain and coast route home.
2. A wet (and cold) weekend or two in the Blue Mountains over winter.
3. A run along some of NSWs western/outback rivers (dust/corrugations)
Through-out all this the Mitchell Bros tow bar performed faultlessly. Good ground clearance, easy to work around in terms of access to the rear of the vehicle etc, and clearly up to the task at hand.
If you are still thinking about it, time to get on with it.
Thank you Mr Haggis for the great review, we really appreciate it. Drop in for a beer if you are around.
A visit to an engineering shop in Dubbo and now I have 35mm removed and its a much tidier. Took the van thru the Dubbo weighbridge and all up its now just a smidge under 3000kgs and 250kgs on the ball. The better half has interpreted this to mean that we have more room for her stuff now !! Put a stop to that quickly.
Just for posterity here's the last pictures I'll post of the excellent Mitchell Bros. hitch and along with Haggis have to recommend that if you are going to tow anything more than a box trailer then you need to get one of these.

Hi Lawrie50,
I like the tongue chop you have done, it looks neat. Have you noticed any other downsides to using our hitch??
If there are any downsides Aaron I haven't found them, we have covered just over 1100kms and towing like a dream no noise and ground clearance to burn. If there was anything that could improve on perfection I would say that you could offer black powdercoating over the zinc. Don't remove the zinc plate that's the guarantee of no rust but it does seem that most are painting them and normal paint will soon get scratched whereas powdercoating is much tougher. I have noticed mine is scratching whare the D shackles rub against it already.
Its a job well done you guys deserve a pat on the back for the effort that you put in to make it happen. 2007 TDV6 SE Towing 22' Boroma Primo Grandinata, Mitchell Bros. Tow Hitch, Bolle Tint, TomTom GoLive 825 GPS.
Disco with T-van in tow with Mitchell Bros hitch spotted today 4/12/08 at service centre near Yass who's going to own up??

you cant hide anywhere from this Forum!!
Mirror comments about painting it Aaron - every seems to be doing it anyway and a powder coated version would be sensible in my view.MY2010 D4 HSE 3.0, e-diff, 19inch MTR's; LLAMS Height adjustor, LR f & r light guards, LR side steps, LR bright finish side door mouldings; LR/Mantec G4 front bash plate, LR G4 Winch kit, Warn 9500lb Winch; GOE compressor guard, Uniden UHF, LR bright finish roof rails, LR G4 driving light kit, LR G4 ladder, 4 x extra rear compartment 12V sockets, Traxide dual battery system and Optima Yellowtop battery, ORS drawer system / fridge slide, LED rear compartment lighting.

Does anyone want to lend me their vehicle for a photo shoot for Overlander Magazine?? Well not exactly lend, what I meant was, make their vehicle available so we can photograph it with one of our hitches on it. I actually need two vehicles with standard rear bumpers, one with standard configuration "plough" and the other with one of our hitches on it. If people could be available in the week starting Australia Day long weekend that would be perfect.
Please give me a call if possible, 9905 4764 Aaron Mitchell

Aaron, if I'm around that weekend (will find out in a few days) you'd be welcome to use mine with the standard plough.
I haven't even fitted it to the car yet...so it may as well be useful for something.

Aaron, just confirming further to our conversation yesterday, that I will be available that week after Australia Day - with either your hitch or the standard one, whichever you require.. John2007 TDV6 SE Stornoway Gray
