New windscreen needed...
Wife has just come home and reported a small stone pinged the edge of the screen....within a few hundred yards it had turned into this....

Phoned the dedicated Windscreen line of my Insurance company (National Windscreens) and they're going to ring me back.....I assume they will fit an OEM replacement ?

If they do, please let us know the name of your insurance co.?
If you're lucky you'll get a Pilkington one that's almost as good as the OEM... If not, it'll be a cheap Chinese copy one - rubbish heating elements, thick border and bright yellow connectors that you can see from outside the car. I can spot them a mile off now!

More than likely your replacement will be genuine.
You must make sure they use new fasteners for the A pillar trims, and inspect the trims carefully before re-using, they are very easy to damage during removal, and once cracked, or if one of the locating pegs comes off, they will not sit flush and will cause wind noise, and possibly come off at speed.

Not what you want, is it?
I had a similar crack appear from the lower edge of the screen.
I wouldn't assume any of the main players will fit a genuine Land rover branded screen nor actually do the job right with new clips under the A pillar covers
You should insist that is what you want.
I settled for a non-Landrover branded but still genuine Pilkington Opticool screen that had identical markings to the original except the Landover logo

Most insurance companies bung a £70 excess on a replacement windscreen. A lot more if you don't to go with their fitter of choice.
The other thing to remember is you'll have to list this as a claim if you go elsewhere for insurance. I be already had an argument with the insurance over this. It won't make any difference to the premium unless you start trotting them up, but if you don't tell them ....... and nowadays, all claims end up on a database.

I definitely need to get the new Blackvue fitted ASAP .....after informing me of the cracked windscreen the last time, she informed me this morning that last night "the car gave me a funny message, and wouldn't go above 30" !......"restricted performance" ? I asked.....".yes that was it"......
I'll have a look this morning, but I need to find out exactly what she does to it "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Had a good chat with the very helpful manager of my local branch (National Windscreens) and raised the points as advised on here
The latest design has a vertical VIN cutout on the windscreen, not horizontal apparently, which can cause some confusion with the Discovery 4
He was a FFRR owner and enthusiast, and says all the fitters carry, and replace, all clips as a matter of course as they are known to break easily.
I asked which make of screen they use,and they use the Pilkington Optikool, which,as mentioned above,is OEM LR,just without the branding on them.....
Thanks for the pointers
Just hope the Disco4.com sticker comes off easily "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

I can confirm that it is National Windscreens policy that if the car is less than 3 years old, then OEM BRANDED glass must be supplied and fitted. We found this out on Ali's 4 week old D4 a fews weeks back

Interesting.......Steve,on the strength of your post,I've just phoned their Head Office and asked that question .....
They confirmed the Pilkington Optikool is the screen that is OEM Discovery fitment, but that they don't fit BRANDED as a matter of policy on cars under 3 years old
Apparently they are produced at the same time, with exactly the same tolerances, they just don't stamp some with the branding, and these ones go to replacement windscreen suppliers....
Looks like you struck lucky, and,as with all these companies, policy depends on who you speak to "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Don't .....He had this huge unwieldy hinged contraption which meant he could fit the new one himself, albeit with difficulty.....I offered to help, and quickly regretted it as he said lining it up on the new silicon beading was a one-shot only job "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
