From what I've found, any TR mode other than GGS on grass/mud that slippy will lead to going nowhere.
Would the average driver with no interest in the actual working of the systems think beyond "It's muddy, therefore the one that says "Mud + Ruts" must be the one I need?
Trying to go through that in MR will get you not very far at all on road tyres.
I really think that a LRE day should be included with all sales. It would certainly help some.

I was there and to be honest it was slippery but GG ATs had no issues, the problem from what I could see was they all think lots of power gets you moving, A freelander was parked next to me and decided if he was quick he would get in front of me, as soon as he put the power on he just spun on the spot. All terrain was in normal mode 2nd gear selected and we just ticked over no spinning of tyres and away we went.
The marshals also didn't help the situation as they parked people too close so a lot of cars needed to shunt to get around into the exit lanes, once a front wheel drive had ploughed a groove in the mud it made it hard for a non 4 wheel drive car to get out the tracks.

I don't care whether people know how to use them or not... just don't make a fool of yourself in front of news cameras!

How much of that was down to the driver of the Range Rover?
Didn't look like he was in low range or indeed making any effort to control the wheel-spin. Being winched with the brakes on didn't suggest any off-road experience.
The D4 driver seemed better set-up until he tried the acute angles. Some really bad techniques with the strop and the winch too - would you dangle your dangly bits over are live strop or cable??Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
