Steering Angle Calibration Failure

I need some help please......

I've done some work on my D3 over the past few weeks. One task was to replace the steering UJ shaft, as the UJ was seized.

After starting the car I get all the usual "Special Programs Off", the car lowers etc. Therefore after searching and reading on this forum, I suspect I needed to calibrate the steering angle sensor. When I read the fault codes on my MSV2, I saw nothing under the "Tested Fault Codes", but there were 2 under the "Not Tested Fault Codes". Also the information on the steering angle looks a bit weird, plus my VIN is missing. When I checked my CCF, I saw that the Steering Angle Sensor was fitted, but in the Steering Angle Sensor Orientation was set to "Undefined - 0%". Should this not be set to "Sensor Mount Normal - 100%".

When I try to calibrate the steering angle I get the error "Communication Error, Steering Angle Calibration Failed, Transfer Aborted".

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
John

Has the sensor moved. Reports on here of a few of them coming loose. Simple to fix, but it may not be secure hence the failure?

The car was running fine when it went onto the ramps. I'll have to get under the steering column and take a look, as that looks like a likely suspect. Thumbs Up

Can someone please check their CCF to see what has been configured for the below:-

Steering Angle Sensor Orientation, is it set to "Undefined - 0%" or "Sensor Mount Normal - 100%".

Thanks
John

Mine changed itself after a failed CCF update, using "Basic" mode.

Had to rebuild the CCF in Advanced mode to rectify all the issues

You are the man Bow down Bow down

Set my Steering Angle Sensor Orientation to "Sensor Mount Normal - 100%", wrote the file, cleared the codes, and calibrated the steering angle. The angle is now 0 degrees and not 5773, and all faults/lights are not showing on the dashboard.

Taken a new download of the CCF for reference purposes.

Will need to take it for a test drive later, but looks like the issue is solved. Thumbs Up

Thanks
John

Hi John
Just wondering if your issue stayed resolved? I’m experiencing the same problem.

Cheers.

Great to hear and thanks for the quick response! I have an IIDTool and the CCF file shows the sensor as fitted but does not have an option to check the setting for the Steering Angle Sensor Orientation.
I’m having someone else look over it tomorrow and they have a different diagnostic system so hopefully will be able to resolve. Maybe the sensor has had it and a new one is needed.

All sorted now. Thumbs Up CCF file was rebuilt and then it accepted the calibration. Would have struggled without the experience shared on this thread. Thanks to all contributors.
