PM not respponded to, so post as thread
Martin,
I was in 2 minds whether to contact you or not on this, but as this type of thing has happened in the past with others and now it's been done to me I feel I have to express my frustration with the site moderators for this year.
last night I placed a thread in off topics/humor section, and I was only playing with my wife's use of English words considering she is a non-native English speaker
"something along the lines of dog drying tumble drier or towel/hairdrier" (topic121976.html)
as it was I jested with my wife which setting when she realized she meant hairdrier, it was a slip of the tongue from a non-native English speaker, but I thought a bit of humor as other have done on this site.
before I went to bed I did see 6 updates and nearly responded, but thought wait till morning to see if people still have a sense oh humor.
to my surprise the thread has been removed; but checking my history found it to be topic121976.html; so I can prove it was there.
see:-
before there used to be a little bit of jesting on this site; I guess people have lost their sense of humor or its reserved for those that actually in with each other
THAT ISN'T MY COMPLAINT!
MY COMPLAINT is that I haven't had any form of notice that the thread had been removed and why
apart from the issues that DT had on the site, I feel that at least one of the moderators treats the site as his own personal bashing place where he makes comments 'to' and 'about' others and even adds very provocative comments; when challenged on this his response seems to be, he did it to trigger re-action etc and THAT we should live with it.
it's like we have double standards from the moderators.
life's too short to worry on such silly things, but I would at least expect to be treated with respect to be informed as to why; at the time of deletion, not after any complaint
this site is very informative and most the time entertaining, but it appears we have to be in with the right crowd to be treated fairly. Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

Sorry you feel this way. Your thread may well have been taken in the wrong context, but it did not read like that and got several negative responses and reports.
When a moderator or Martin removes a thread, we are under no compulsion to tell the thread starter why, often we are doing this on a phone, whilst we too are enjoying ourselves with our families, so please do not ask or expect an explanation for every action. Wherever possible we will do, but not always.
If you don't like the way we moderate the forum, then there is nothing we can do to help you. There is no point in comparing yourself with others, nobody has been banned recently, they didn't like the way we moderated and decided to refrain from contributing.
I have in the past had posts deleted and not always do you get an informative PM, sometime you do others you don't, what I would expect though is a response as to why it was removed whe questioned
Different Mods have different styles and views, I don't think Martin has the time to watch every post or atopic, so has to rely on others, hopefully the Mod that removed the topic will now post up why
Perhaps it could become a standard operation procedure to inform the poster why their post or in this case thread has bee removed?Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Thank you Gareth,
at least that explains why I didn't see a PM as to why, maybe as Beanie states it should be standard courtesy.
I saw 6 replies to the thread before I went to bed and some didn't see the funny side; to those folks I send my apologies , it really was a play on my wife's use of English. Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

Your post never came across as a joke! You can't expect to post stupid questions like you did then wonder why it was removed by a mod! I think the banter on this site is fantastic you just need to learn what is acceptable and what isn't!D3 x2 now gone

The topic was removed because it referred to putting a dog into a tumble dryer, and the OP jokingly asking what setting he should use to dry the dog. This got an immediate aggressive reaction from several dog lovers. So it was pulled.
We have not got time to do as you ask Gregg, its just not possible to make everything so formalised. I do try to communicate when possible, as does DG, Slimer and Martin.

+1
There was no way that post read as funny to me.
I love a laugh and a joke as much as anyone but am also a dog owner/lover.
If you take time to think and read through what you are posting then you may see why this thread was binned
I'm personally glad it was. And why blame your wife?
The way forward is to accept it wasn't funny and move on

Let's be honest, I think all** the Moderators do a pretty good job. If they think a post is not suitable, then we must abide by their view, their rules. End of story.

The moderators job would be easier if people were not so easily offended and felt the need to click the red triangle at every opportunity. I sometimes wonder how these people manage in the unmoderated real world GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

No.1 - you were aware of the level of distaste at your post. I waited for a while to see if you would respond directly to all the negative posts, and to be clear there were no positive ones, but after sometime you went offline and I felt then you weren't going to do anything about it and given the multiple complaints and disgusted comments I pulled it.

I would think it was very clear to you at the last occasion you looked to understand why the post was pulled. Why would you possibly want me to waste my time telling you why?? It was clear why. When I feel it necessary I do send a note but in this instance I felt it would be clear to you, nevertheless

This no doubt refers to me .....well let me tell you and all others while we are here that I don't worry about ...nor care for what people think of me. Those that know me personally do I believe know that I'm a decent chap with a sense of humour and although like others don't always get everything right I moderate in the way that is acceptable to the site owner, the other moderators and 95% of my time donated here is appreciated by site users ....that's all I concern myself with ...if you or the other clans of haters don't like that then the door is over there. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
It's time this thread was locked.

Before this thread does get locked, could I suggest a bit more work for Martin - who might be working on this already though. As the software is bespoke, could an automatic function be added so that when a thread (or post) is removed from public view, the software automatically sends a notification to the original poster?A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill.
