Which D4 model?
I'm looking to sink £30-32k into a new (to me) D4, question is which one? My D3 SE has quite a few toys including heated rear seats, Xenon headlights and electric, memory seats and I don't want to lose these.
I'd like one with less than 50k miles and I've heard the 255HP SD 8 speed auto is the one to have which probably means a late 2011/early 2012 XS model is within budget. Alternatively I could go for a slightly older 245HP SD 6 speed HSE.
Question is, should I go for a well specced XS or slghtly older HSE. Are the extra electrical toys on the HSE of more value than the 8 speed box/more power of the newer XS?

Get the best engine and gearbox combination first - it's where you will notice it most.
Everything else is secondary.

Thanks, so are there any toys any HSE owners would miss that aren't already on the XS? For example, I've got by for years without a reversing camera and I think I'm sure I wouldn't use a TV. However, I like my music so what about the Logic 7 Hifi, is is much better than the standard HK one in the XS? Does the same thing apply to the navigation?
All answers appreciated, don't want to end up with the wrong model. Logic suggests the newer car will be better but they are so similar it's difficult to tell, especially as many options on the XS can be enabled with a computer?

IMO you should test drive the two and make your
own mind up, you are the person who will be driving
and living with your decisions, for another 2k you can
have best of both worlds,I have HSE 255 8speed its

I stand to be corrected, but I believe that only the HSE has heated rear seats.

The XS doesnt have heated rear seats, only fronts, and halogen headlights as well.
I've an 8 speed XS, and had an HSE a couple of times when mines been in - to be honest, I can live without the extra's the HSE has, given how much more expensive they are. XS has cruise/satnav/leather/front are rear park sensors.

I really appreciate the HSE spec but if getting an HSE meant settling for the old gearbox I would leave it and go for the XS.

For 8sp 225HP you need MY12, so 61 plate or later.
But even the HSE had some options, for example the Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 ICE was an extra £1250, so I didn't bother - who needs 17 loudspeakers when you can get away with 11.
There's a spreadsheet in my gallery showing difference and options between MY12 HSE and XS.MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

Thanks everyone, you've been a great help. I think I'll wait until early next year and go for an 8sp HSE.
