When I drove a Defender the water would form a pool on the bonnet and I would try to predict when it would flow to the front and then cover the windscreen in spray.Andy

Water appears to be pushed forwards at speed and then naturally the car catches up with the airbourne wave. Very dangerous feature especially when driving through a long puddle
This is correct

I put it down to the very short frontal overhang
Btw,I'm still not sure what the little 'fins' ahead of the front wheel arches are for.....I assumed they were to reduced splash over the bonnet to the windscreen, but having not refitted them (post-RLD sump plate) I haven't noticed any difference
The "fins" are there on an RRS, but they come right to the edge of the bumper, reducing the spray.
They are not there at all on D3, and have little flaps on D4. But they barely cover half of the tread, so suffers from the very same issue
Only way around it is to slow down, or avoid the puddle

Defender did it, L200 did it, Disco did it. I was incandescent with rage that these off-road capable vehicles with great approach angles and high ground clearance should fail to cope with puddles at great speed.
Fair point as always, succinctly made ......but were not talking about warp speed here.....I've hit puddles at not much more than walking pace, and had a "moment" if it's not raining and the wipers aren't on......on the upside though, the Discovery continues in a straight line when hitting standing water....unlike some others I've owned "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Going back to the Range Rover video, did anyone notice how it swaps from LHD to RHD and back several times?

Yes, That distracted me from the actual content of the video (ie numpty driving like a numpty). I assumed the GoPro type thing he was using switched the image about, but perhaps he actually crashed two cars?

The fins are there to allow air flow from front, for cooling and so on,
The width of the tyres combined with the highs of the, lowest part causes the water to be allowed to go forward, then the car catches up with the wave, resulting in windscreen getting covered.
