Well that would be Brink ..... Thule bought out Brink in 2006 and they were branded as such ... but in a twist they went back to the Brink name last year ...no doubt it's the same build method though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Hi DDDad, the wording is: "The tow bar mounted carrier is not suitable for tow bars made entirely of aluminium or GGG40 (cast iron)."
Wow! That's quite a high grade of ductile cast iron! I have emailed Thule for clarification. Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

Thule fobbed me off and told me to talk to Land Rover about the material my tow bar's made from. One for Pete Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

DG, I just thought. My disco is a 2005, but had a new, (well, unused), tow ball supplied when I purchased it. So the tow ball could be only 4 years old but...........
DDDad, I missed a call from LR cust. services today as I was at work and they close at 4:30, before I got home. I will ring them tomorrow if I get the chance. Hopefully they will have a definitive answer for me. I rang them last Friday while having the tow ball checked at the dealers, to ask what it was made from.
Heres hoping....

As I stated earlier Thule don't get involved now.... production is back under The Brink Group
Spoke to my local dealer (Listers Hereford) and am booked in for the inspection.
My only point of concern is I cannot get my key into the keyhole....it simply will not slot in, is this going to be an issue that they won't be able to ad hoc rectify as part of the inspection.....or should I pre empt it and some how fit a new lock? (Tow bar is currently attached to vehicle-I know its not supposed to be).Ted

tow bar
Looks like it has started again. Had my letter this morning quoting Q393 requesting I take my Disco to my local Landrover main agent to have the tow bar checked.

Hi all
Only just seen this thread, should I be concerned about the removable tow ball on my D3 and how do I go about having it checked?

You just need to contact a main dealer and get it booked in.
I guess how concerned you need to be depends really on what you are towing, how heavy, how often etc. Do you leave the bar attached permanently as that seems to be one of the causes of problems and wear.Andy
