Disco 3, 4 & RR Sport Detachable Tow Ball - Quality Conc
Received a letter today from LR Customer Service advising a "potential quality concern" has been identified in connection with the "Quick Release" towing equipment.
"Should the detachable towbar be incorrectly used, owners can experience premature and excessive wear" Should the signs of deterioration not be detected during the course of insertion of the tow ball, it is possible that the tow ball may detach unexpectedly.
For LR branded towbars only the lR dealer will inspect.... using a special gauge....where excessive wear indicated a heavy duty multi height tow bar will be fitted or the rear crossmember replaced depending on the level of damage.... no charge for the rework action....."

Hi,
As an owner of a used D3 how do we go about this as we will not be notified by LR of this recall.

If your vehicle is registered in your name and at your address with the DVLA then LR will use their information to contact you.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Don't rely on it......
I've complained in the past to LR on this and I was not written to and had to escalate with LR again and again to get this resolved......

the theory is that LR will use the DVLA to contact current owners
Looking back jc_uk I think when you had complained back in January they hadn't sent out any letters to anyone ....and as you have since had the check and work done your vehicle wouldn't have flagged up since as requiring a letter as it would show no outstanding campaigns. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Mine was purchased 2nd hand and I received the letter from LR this week
My question is regarding the line in the letter that says
Quote:
a heavy duty multi-height towbar will be installed
As I mostly only use the Disco to tow my Sankey, will this replacment towbar be able to take a sankey tow hitch end? - this is of course only if they deem it necessary for them to to fit this towbar.
I also use a Land Rover Tow adaptor, to which I attached an RLD Sankey adaptor, should I take this as well when I go in?

The danger with taking your sankey kit is that they wont do anything at all as it's not an approved towhitch ..maybe safer to just take any lr kit you have 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I wouldn't count on it either.
The letter I received today relates to a car that I sold (to a main LR dealer) 12 months ago.
I haven't received anything regarding my current vehicle!
It apparently relates to "2005- 2013 RR Sport and 2005 to 2015 model year Discovery vehicles"

LRCS have the trade in reg on file for my D3, despite numerous attempts to change it. Gave up in the end as no point wasting my precious time. They do some things well, they do some thing crap. Database is deffo the latter, from my experiences.
Mind you I have a tow hook bought from Yeovil LR, never fitted. Wonder if it's loose yet and I can get a nice multi height hook to act as secondary parking sensors.

There is a saying, if a job is worth doing do it yourself, as i mentioned before i was not happy about my 2005 tow ball (even after inspection) and set to to make it better one M10 grub screw a small mod to the spring and a 5mm allen key, 100% fix and looks ok. You do need to take the whole thing apart, mind the steel ball that locks the spring loaded pin in (photo) added plus a good clean and lube did it no harm at all , fit as usual then wind up the allen key its not a lot to do to be 100% happy and because i have the use of a machine shop did the mod in one lunch hour.

Dont take the RLD part but do take the adaptor. It's a genuine LR part and should be checked for fit same as tow bar surely

The Spring on the adaptor is very stiff as well, so we‘ll see how it goes Iggy/Ieuan

No letter, but popped into Listers Droitwich, and am booked in for inspection next Saturday. Very helpful and appeared to be fully aware of Q393. We'll see what they say next week.2005 D3 TDV6 S - EGR's blanked, RRS front lower wishbones, detangoed
