Very impressive John Thumbs Up Even if we take out the optimism of the computer, you must have been hitting around 45mpg minimum.....

Although I would keep quiet about it if I was you....otherwise the government will stop complaining about CO2 bootprints and start hiking the fuel tax to compensate for the fact that these damn 4x4s are just not burning as much fuel and earning them as much money as their revenue calculations said they would Very Happy

United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Unknown ColourDiscovery 3

Averaging about 60mph in a manual, i've achieved a whopping 38.3mpg driving from alton tower to newcastle.
It was certainly hard work where you try not to put any gas when its downhill and let speed drop slightly when going up hill.

I only picked up the 06 D3 (Manual Commerical) a few days ago but seem to be averaging around 27-28mpg. Thats mixed 70-80 mph motorway, 40-50mph back roads.

Fuel

Just come back from a run up to the lakes and was very happy with the fuel fig's !!

Car fully loaded with wife kids and dog, plus luggage and me of course.

Joined M6 at junction 38 Tebay and put on C/C set at 70mph as i know the road can be policed often, managed a clear run all the way to Junction 23 without any stops or messing around, Fuel computer was reading between 32.6 - best 34mpg all the way home..

Very Happy

....which represents a true figure of about 27-28mpg which is still damn good. Wish I could achieve that Big Cry

I'm getting 23.4 on a long straight run, unloaded. This represents a change in performance for my car post the fuel pump recall. It's going to go in for some checks as there's no reason for such variance. I'll let you know what they find.

There are indeed techniques to improve the fuel consumption. I am surprised no one has shared them with you.

1. Never calculate the fuel consumption from brim to brim figures. Always trust the computer read out.

2. Always re set the average MPG trip at the top of any hill.

3. Put a house brick underneath the accelerator pedal. Motobility scooters will overtake you, but that is ok, as the current scaremongering has proved they can be lethal in the wrong hands, and far better they are where you can see them.

4. Try to slipstream any scooter in front of you. It works in F1, so it should hold good for 2.7 tonnes of Discovery .

5. Smile. You are driving the best 4x4xfar!

nice one RD

Mines an auto, and if I drive it like I've knicked it, it'll scare the living Censored out of whoever your taking on, but MPG on the trip comp shows 16mpg, and I know thats above what its actually doing (mine can be out by as much as 4mpg). On a setady motorway only run, sitting at around 70/75, trip comp shows 33, 28/29 actual. Last time I towed the 'van with it, trip comp was showing 19MPG

I most agree with the posts of RD and Al.
If you want a dream milage stick to RDs advice. Wink
If you want to drive her as she likes then 24 mpg is top. Im doing 60% town, 20 %H/W, 20% O/R, reseting after 2-3000 km and never made it over 20,2. Sorry Thumbs Up

Go enjoy your D3, it is worth every gallon or mile
(if you seek a good mileage you would buy a VW Golf diesel)

Only ever checked the mileage once on the previous D3.

England 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Manual Unknown ColourDiscovery 3

Around town expect 20mg Big Cry. Then again we had a little contest to see who could get the most out of it a few weeks ago... 63mpg average over a few miles of 30-60 mph roads. So if you're willing to drive like a grandma, you can get as much as you want.

I didnt expect high mpg but i was hoping for mid 20's mpg

But towing this weekend i did get 23mpg up to filey well happy with that.

Mine is an 05 manual and local runs I seem to be getting 19-23 mpg (hilly) on a solo run its up to 28-30 on motorway doing 80.

Towing the [13 foot] caravan it is around the 20-23 mark on mixed roads. I don't think its any better or any worse than a 110 Td5 and its a lot smoother, faster quieter.

All that is with air con on, no roof-rack and road tyres
