Got to the car this morning and, thanks to timed climate, it was toasty and the screens were clear of frost...so happy days I thought. Wrong!
Pushed the start button, the dash lit up like a xmas tree, the dial needles juddered for a few seconds, the clock span until it reached 12:00, no attempt at turning the engine over and, for about 30secs after everything had settled, the lo-range indicator on the dash flashed before everything went dark.
Nothing about low battery on the lcd or dash and no indication that there was an issue with timed climate.
Typically my jump leads are elsewhere and I am now having to wait for Green Flag until 10:30-11:00.Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Had something similar on our D3 a fortnight ago. FBH had run to clear the car but when I went to start it, funny dash lights and just a click of a relay. No low battery warning.
Checked it a bit later with my multi-meter and it was down to below 12v. Suspect in that case, for us at least, it was down to MrsWizbongre doing a few short trips over a couple of days and hammering the remote FBH in between, as further testing showed the alternator and battery were ok (although I replaced the battery anyway as no idea how old the other one was, and now have a new alternator on a shelf in the garage as part of my summer maintenenace plans!)Cheers,
Gareth

Well, I'm back on the road courtesy of some new jump leads and an A4 Allroad. Went for a good drive around to get the charge up but my local Halfords doesn't sell multi-meters.
So, can anyone recommend a reasonable multi-meter from an online retailer?

Re: Is this a low battery issue?
On my MY14 if the battery is low the FBH just doesn't start.

If the battery was low the timed/remote FBH will not work, I've been having battery problems for the last few months and until last month when they finally found that it was a goosed battery the timed/remote FBH would just not work - nice to have it working again now though!
In the past the timed climate has just not started if it thought battery levels were too low...so what's changed. Perhaps the battery is goosed.
An 11 plate D4, so 4.5 years old with 80k on the clock. Time for a replacement battery?Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Member of Gloucestershire & Worcestershire 4x4 Response.

Charge the battery first with a proper charger before thinking of condemning it.

My 2010 with 44k had a new AGM battery a few weeks ago so the age is about right. My experience was that as the battery started on its way out sometimes the timed climate would start (the voltage check is before it fires not during the runtime) but the FBH would then deplete the battery almost to the point of engine not starting. I think it may well be a sign that your battery is on its last legs. Once off the car I fully charged the old battery and it held its charge very well (as well you can check just by checking the voltage periodically). Put a light (literally) load on it and the voltage dropped off amazingly quickly.
Turned timed climate off for the moment so will see what effect that has.
Back to back children's parties tomorrow but will hopefully get a chance to go Multimeter shopping. Any tips?Front Runner Rack, OEM Ladder & RAI, Tuff-Trek Foxwing, B'rakhah Ingonyama Expedition Trailer, RLD's Spare Wheel Protector, Bodsy's Bars, Empty Pockets! Any old cheap multimeter will do, but you really want ones with decent length and thickness leads as the leads on the cheap ones tend to fall apart.

Simon, you need to get the remote kit now, so you don't need to use the timed kit, just use the remote when you need it. I'm sure the timed will be running occasionally when your not using it.
