Removing the bumper cover is really easy to do so the labour rate is still unexplained.

I'm doing the same, I just contacted the dealer. Then, the tow bar itself seems to be a much easier matter as there are plenty of new and used parts available - the electrics installation seems to be the real issue.
My rear parking sensors on the D3 and current D4 sound when reversing with the bike carrier or caravan attached - have to push the button on the dash to switch them off
Should they automatically switch off when electrics are attached ?D4 2010 HSE Santorini Black

If you want to automatically switch off the rear sensors when reversing, then they have to be software deactivated to do this (they will still work when nothing is attached to the tow electrics).
My LR dealer did mine for free as I bought and got the electrics fitted by them - but was about £65 otherwise from the dealer.

Yes as the other guys say. You need to get the tow bar enabled. A few guys on here do it.FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

My dealer has so far had 5 goes and counting to stop the rear parking sensors working when a trailer is attached.
On the plus side, they have now started washing it when it goes in, so all is not lost.Andy

Apart from the getting it washed bit you may have better luck with one of us.

The electrics on the D4 were already fitted when I bought it and as it was the same as the D3 I presumed it was norm for them to sound !

That is very true Robbie, although I did ask a few days back (albeit part of a rambling post with a turbo fault code and a few other codes for good measure), without success.
I thought I had found the problem myself as my IID BT widget said the trailer electrics on mine are set to 13 pin, but they are actually 7. I was going to change it myself but there are lots of different options, so rather than try them all thought I would ask what it should be.
Anyway, seems I was being too clever for my own good as car in being mended (and I'm now stuck on a train), but yesterday they said it was only set to 13 pin due to the different things they have been trying and told to try by Land Rover.Andy

Simon, it was only thanks to the great people on here I knew mine wasn't right. Although for me it is turning into a bit of a saga now, so much to be said for ignorance is bliss (especially when there is a button to turn them off).Andy
