Oil level sensor harness oil leak

Dear gurus of this forum,
I recently changed the oil level sensor and its harness on my D4 2011. I must have busted the plug or its o-rings as I now have an oil leak from it. It was a very tight fit so I had some difficulty getting it in. I will try and see if I can get it out without removing the sump. It should be possible to change the o-rkngs from the outside. Otherwise I need to do the whole procedure once again...

Question for you guys doing this regularely, is there a trick to get the plug into the sump in a more gentle way? Do you think it would be possible to seal it from the outside?

Thanks,
Peter
