If that's the case all I need to do is watch out for a set of "S" Alloys to replace mine if I damage them.

... Seems too easy.

He did say that, but then it was for touring I think he meant.

PCH - what tyres do you have currently if you're saying that you should've got the new Cooper tyres ?

Sorry I didn't make it that clear.

I have Cooper Discoverer ST (Sure Trac) LT245/70/17 which are all terrain tyres . This size is only available in the "non anti chip" compound. I would have preferred the "anti chip" compund because the edges of the tread blocks are easily damaged on rocks and I have damage already.

Cooper also have the exact same size in the new STT mud tyre which uses the Armor Tek casing and also has "anti chipping" compound. These are more noisy than the ST due to the aggressive tread block design. In the mud these tyres will be better than the ST's they also have a thread design on the sidewall to help with traction in deep mud and ruts. The cost for the STT was about AUD$15 more per tyre than the ST.

See the Cooper Australia website here:

One idea I came up with is the wheels that are used on the LR experience D3 are replaced when they are sold on as Ex-demos!
If we can fined out how to get hold of these they would make good off road wheels, instead of trashing our standard ones!
Apparently they are just binned when they go back to LR to be prepared for resale!

Discovery343 - Off Road tyres for my SE TDV6

Disaster! Trip up the Montrose Track (it winds up behind Mount Wellington behind Hobart), two of my Cooper ST's cut in the sidewalls. Not happy! The fire trail has been re-surfaced with large sharp rocks. Fortunately, the other 5 cars got through unscathed.

Having had a blow-out on the last bit of my LRE1 course, I was chatting with the instructor whilst waiting for the trolley jack to arrive by freelander. He mentioned that the wheel and tyre are binned and new ones put on. On my suggestion that I might take it as a 'souvenir', he related that the wheels are drilled to prevent reuse. Apparently were LR to sell them instead, the lawyers were concerned about liabiliity if the wheel was to fail, so it was decided to put them 'beyond use' ((c)Gen.DeChasselyn) instead.
Seems a crying shame if true, given how many wheels the LRE places must get through.
