Flatoutiintop. I called Mastora in Alnwick for a price to do the belts, oil pump and water pump. Decided to buy the whole kit from Advanced Factors myself and my local mechanic is going to do the work. Mastora are very good so maybe worth a call.

thanks, but their quote was a bit over my budget! would you mind saying how much you paid for the full kit, and exactly what you bought please?! I'm thinking of having a go at it myself with the assistance of a handy mate if I can't find anyone local to do it (cheaply)

Agreed. I was suprised with what they came in with price wise. I think everything from advanced factors was about £350 including sealant for the new oil pump, hex bolt and water pump. All OEM and delivered within 24 hours. The forum also has a discount code that lowered the price by 7%. My D3 can’t be worth more than £4500 so to pay £800 plus for the work at Mastora just doesn’t add up. My local guy is circa £40 an hour and he thinks it will take him less than 4 hours.

He is based in Duns. I am just inside Scotland about 15 mins from Berwick Upon Tweed. I do get mates rates but he is a good guy and has done a load of work on the D3 over the past few years. I will PM you his details.

Mine has been fine touch wood. Had a leak from the crank seal after a day (v small leak) but got that sorted.

An associated question - how often should the oil pump be replaced ? My D3 is having 2nd timing belt change at 124k and whilst on there is it recommended to replace water pump and oil pump again? Thanks

It only needs to be changed once if you already have the one with the uprated casing.
Its a problem with the casings cracking not the pumps wearing out.

Whats the go with aftermarket oil pumps?
I see the like of Britpart and other lesser makes do them, but see a few other options now from the likes of FAI an Bearmach.

Obviously genuine FoMoCo ones are the way to go, but are all aftermarket ones a no go?

Genuine Ford oil pumps bought from a Ford dealer (but a Ford Territory diesel oil pump) are about $170 AUD (you can do the NZ conversion). The exact same pump through LR sources are about $400 AUD.

With the price of the genuine item so cheap at Ford why would you but some crap from Britpart - is it worth it? Why take the risk.

Unfortunately Ford in NZ charges a lot more than 170 for an oil pump, about $600 I think it was.
I certainly wouldn’t waste my money on Britpart, even Bearmach is a bit iffy, but the FAI sounded promising.

As I hope to keep my vehicle for a long time Im going to go genuine, but would be keen to hear if anyone has fitted aftermarket and had any success or issues.

Well buy from Ford Australia and get it sent over.

This dealer will do it - cheap as chips
