Yes - maybe I didn't approach this in the right way, but I think I tried everything before calling for the tractor - luckily someone we know just across the road!

It was not really deep snow. I guess you are right that the only way to find out is to put it in that situation again, but I would be a bit wary about getting stuck one more...
