I am a recent import from the UK. When I applied for my visa I had to double check one part as you now have to prove you do NOT have a criminal record.
On a more serious note I've just installed a 5000l water tank to collect the rainwater from my roof so that there is something to run the washing machine from and flush the toilet with. There is a very serious lack of rainfall/lack of water storage here at the moment.
