Insurance for Test Drives |
|
Maybe selling the Disco 3 later this year. If I sell privately I understand that if a prospective purchaser wants to take a test drive I think (?) I would need to check their:
1) driving licence,
2) new print out thingy from DVLA to verify licence is valid,
3) insurance certificate.
However in my experience, "fully comp" usually only covers third party vehicles to, erm, third party losses only, I.e. Not my vehicle if they write it off. how do other sellers protect themselves when allowing test drives, bearing in mind particularly how an inexperienced driver might be caught out by size and weight of the disco.
Many thanks,
Bob. RLD Spare Wheel Protector.

I've not had a problem taking people for a test drive with me doing the driving. I have let others drive the car with me in it provided they show valid insurance and a driving licence and ID, but in most cases people seem happy enough to go for a drive with me at the wheel. I'm sure someone will come along with a proper answer but I guess it depends how easy you want selling your car to be. Refusing a test drive won't make it easy for a would-be buyer. PAGODA

For the test drive I always do the driving with the perspective purchaser as a passenger. If the purchaser really wanted to drive you can get a single day fully comp insurance online in about 10 mins at reasonable cost (purchaser to pay, perhaps offer to go halves if they do end up purchasing or something like that).

Thank you for the replies. Feel much more comfortable about me doing a demonstration drive and leaving it at that.
