Del, i'd agree with the others re fuel used, the other thing you'll find is (i had a similar issue with getting a good draw) it was outside, if it was enclosed in the canvas shell of a tent the heat generated alters the pressure around it & helps to create a good draw, the other thing is that unlike the Wildo, Helsport & other kit the Frontier is designed to cook on and not as a generator of heat (though you do get some as a by product of the fire.
Off to the woods you go for kindling to start it & help boost when it's getting 'down'. Try & makes sure that anything you get is left undercover/dry for at least 12 months. A mix of hard & soft wood helps as well.Paul.

Grantown on Spey, 565 miles north of southern gaff.
That's far enough, i'll grant. It's worth having a play around to see what works best in terms of fuel, you'll always get crap off pine, more sparks as well. I don't use it in the house or the main one for hot water & heating that's out in the garage.Paul.

Indeed seems to be. It's gonna hurt!
What about those compacted round bricette thingies, it came with some. Prob easier to get hold of. Only problem I had with them is every time I opened the door they rolled out.

Woody had these to start things going, then used purchased kiln dried logs
I'm thinking it'll be worth spending a bit of dosh on the right sort of wood, worth it for the off 5-6 cold camps a year Iggy/Ieuan

Mine works fine on wood from the forest. You just don't want anything to dense, like oak, or crappy till its hot plenty of heat in it, and it's really roaring.

I have a frontier too, it's cheap for a reason and not design for internal applications. I had the same issues, in the end I am using coal as its been a nightmare with wood and keying the smoke to a reasonable level.
I have cut a hole in the door with a disc which can be turned around to control the air, worked much better. The new larger frointer stove now has this, they obviously thought it was necessary!
If you can afford not too and buying your first stove, which you want to use inside, I would not recommend frointer IMHOCLUB DEFNER

If you split the wood straight away, you'll be surprised how quickly it drys and seasons, this is especially important with birch as the bark is very waterproof meaning if you leave it as a log it rots rather than dries. You also need a good airflow around the wood to dry. My mates logs are around 16% moisture content in well under a year, kiln dried logs only have to be under 20%, so he easily achieves that standard with only natural drying and splitting at the beginning of the process not at the end.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
