To splice or not to splice?

I've already read that the remote locking is an issue on the disco but I'm after opinions as to what to try first. The symptoms are remote central locking intermittently works with the key fob. Key starts the car fine so was thinking it was the bad splice I've been reading about rather than the key battery. Also the airbag light is constantly on so is this wire also located in the passenger door sill? If so would people agree that the wires in the door sill would be the best place to start rather than a new key?

Very late reply. But i found the airbag on light was caused by a wire under the drivers seat. The wire seems too short and when the seat is moved all the way back the wire breaks. I added an extra wire lenght to make it longer. then when seat is all the way back the wire doesn't break.
