Interesting as they are pretty hard to get off without the red key, and even with the red key sometimes!

I know there's a few bolts on the fixed towbar but I'm concerned about the being had away as well. Is there any antitheft plate like the one for the removable ones that can be fitted?

I see on ebay that there are many disco 4 tow bars for sale and on bids.
Are these stolen or are these whereby the seller of a land rover has decided to sell his tow bar separately from the vehicle to maximise?
All I'm saying is that a lot of Detachable Towbars disappear at Bluewater and a seller on eBay based a few miles down the road has a lot of feedback for Detachable Towbars, draw your own conclusions.

I have a fixed tow bar, I have given up buying chrome style ball cover caps I have had so many stolen, two have gone from the same car park, thing is they only cost £1.50 each. standard black plastic last forever.
I've had black plastic one stolen off my d3 and my previous Volvo I've had a cut in half tennis ball stolen. You can't have anything.

Its seems I am going to spend over £500 for a new one.
Maybe I should electrify the new one so as soon as thieving hands touch my tow bar it fries the thieves hand to the tow bar.

Ignoring the really rusty ones, removing one without a key takes me just a few seconds. The lock has more to do with it not falling off than any attempt to prevent theft.
Paying £500 for a £120 item seems odd though. Save yourself £100 by sending me £400 for one and we will both be happy!

I just saw this seller selling a new & unused towbar on ebay but when I look at his previous sales he has sold many but I smell something is wrong here as he uses the same image for all the adverts when selling landrover towbars.
I bet these are reconditioned towbars and not new.

I have been decided that I was not going to buy from an individual buyer on ebay as I cant take the risk.
I searched the internet and found Matford Landrover of Exeter selling towbar for £379.99 inc VAT
the I found John Craddock Ltd website and they are selling the towbar for £298.80 inc VAT
I have placed an order with John Craddock Ltd, it did call them to make sure that this was a genuine Landrover part.

- had mine stolen on thursday at Tillington Hall hotel in stafford. reported to police and there is cctv so hopefully they get someone for it. Typical, i was in the D4 which I have the key to remove the tow bar which is now nicked. My D3 I don't have the key for and so cannot take off. Any ideas where to get keys so I can take off and store somewhere safely?
cheersD3 Java Black 57 Plate SE, Night Breakers, Grabber ATs, Sidelight LEDs and best of all - Narpy torch. loads more to buy.
Google knows where to get a new key for £2.99 from, Google will also tell you where to look for the key code if you've lost your keys.
LR should stamp a warning on these "this item is easy to remove without the key, if you can't be arsed to remove it when not in use, and it gets stolen - tough titty"
or some EU comformant words to that effect.

My first LR Towbar was a detachable one - it never got detached once! I've had a fixed one ever since.
Considering that it's possible to get the proper, OEM, adjustable height Towbar fitted, with electrics, for just over £450, I can't see the point in replacing it with another removable one and simply feeding the thieving scum with their next piece of new stock to sell!2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
