Update is that I have had a couple of goes at getting the paint off with Autoglym shampoo and a lambswool mitt and it is starting to come off the paintwork, but is going to need more work. Doubt it will come off the rubber window trim or door frame though.

More effort needed this weekend on it, but it is looking better, so may not be quite as expensive as it first looked.
