nip and tuck
Got the new lights on. Was just intending to line them up but couldn't get one of the bloody things out again without loosening the bumper. The new ones seem to have a lower lip that sits tight behind the top of the bumper. Anyway - looks good. Just can't drive when it's dark until they are activated!!

I've read wiring was needed for DRL but they worked out the box. Hoping it's just activation not wiring for the high/ dipped. Looks like no one has done this before which is surprising?

Hey guys
I bought a 2011 D4 last week and like the idea of doing the headlight upgrade (I did this on my last car which was a 2011 Freelander 2 and changed to the 2013 lights similar to the pic above)
My car looks like the usual D4 but doesn't have daytime running lights (I assumed they all did before buying one), I understand the wiring complications having been down this road before but can someone tell me if I buy the 2014/15 lights do they fit in?
I feel like they look to be different where they meet the Grill, so does that mean I need two lights and a new grill? what about the bumper/fenders?

You need a new grill but can use your old bumper (my photo above is 2015 lights and grill with 2011 bumper)

Thanks Etuna.
I'm not sure I'm ready for the job yet (money wise) but thats good news.. the FL2 wasn't so bad, but as the daytime running lights aren't as bright I didn't have to build in a dim for nighttime.
I have seen how bright the 2014/15 DRL can be and I'm not sure you could get away with having them on at night, did you wire it to dip yours or turn off the DRL at night?

What you see in the photo is plug and play (ie the DLRs which definitely aren't bright enough for night time driving) I'm having the Xenons activated today.

sorry, I re-read.. it looks like your not across that bridge yet.
let me re-edit..
So your last lights were halogen? did they have the 'fairy lights/drl"?
When you plug these in you get DRL only, not headlights or indicators? (thats what happened when I plugged the new FL2 DRL lights in, all the wires were mixed up)

Indicators and DLRs worked out the box (dip/ high beam xenons need activated). My oem lights were halogen with no fairy or DLR.

ok makes sense.. ignore my edited message above.
I thought the headlights (xenon) were supposed to come on but flicker if the wiring was in the same spot but the computer was still set at halogen?

They do (or rather they flash once and go off) hence the fact I need to get them activated. : )

I bough them as a front end package but I suspect you'd pay £850- £1k for a set on their own. To be honest you could get halogens for about £550 that still have the DLRs
(All info I post in this thread needs peer reviewed and sanity checked as I'm feeling my way myself so don't take any of it as gospel)

I haven't checked but I'm fairly sure i have xenon's now (light looks white not yellow), I don't think I would go back to halogen so I'll keep my eyes peeled for a set of xenons instead.
Keep us posted after the activation tomorrow, that would be a great outcome if you can literally plug and play (assuming you are already on xenon).
