Dash cam cabling

I'm looking for a dash cam for a Discovery 4. It seems the best place to mount the camera is behind the rear view mirror. Has anyone had success with hiding the cables? Which power source did you use?

Cheers

Yes, easy to tuck the cables away. Wiring depends on whether it's a 12v direct power or if it's a 5v camera which will still need the plug.

I put in a power socket and USB outlet in my upper cubby then ran the power cable up the A pillar and accross the roof lining to the mirror.

Works on a switched live which I jumped of the fuse box but you could run a perm live if you wanted.

Just mentioned on another thread - experience about dealers disconnecting dash cam and not telling you - happened to me yesterday and didn't notice until half way home - saw cable dangling.

Interesting viewing though before they disconnected it. Not taken into workshop until 12 noon and due to be picked up at 12.30 - so no wonder not collected until 3pm.

Lots of bashing with a hammer (for the new towing eye cover) and queries in the cab "should it not show its been updated' (after temperature display download) "not sure....do you want me to find out?" met by silence - so obviously not checked out Rolling Eyes

The link that Canburne has posted is the way I have mine wired in all apart from the fuse, I just used a "Add-A-Circuit Fuse Holder" Thumbs Up

Is it not possible to get a power feed from the interior lights over the mirror for a camera, rather than going the whole way down to the fuse box/ glove box? I've often thought of fitting a camera but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I had a Bluetooth mobile speaker wired into the lights over the rear view mirror on an old Mondeo I once had. There's a live feed there always for the interior lights. I can't see that the DVR Cameras need an awful lot of power to run.
