milage turned back on speedo.

I just bought a car from a guy in Belgium.
I live in France myself.

now there's an issue with the mileage on the speedo.

does LR England keep records of all the Landys they sold ?
if I have the chassisnumber will that tell me something about the history of the car?

it has not ever been maintained by LR Belgium as far as I know but maybe other dealers keep track of the history too and these data are collected centrally??

I know I m an idiot having bought the car without any service history, but as usual I bought the car with my dick and not my brains.
Embarassed
all signs like wear on steering wheel, pedals, leather seats, shifting stick etc matched the mileage.
no pressure in the block when getting oil filler cap off.
but still I think i m screwed. a garage here said he had doubts.

Sad

but I need to be sure......

No central record keeping from LR til D4s, even if there was if it wasn't done by a LR dealer how are they going to know?

I went for a 150.000 distribution change and the garage told me he thought the car had run more.
he saw a dealer posting dating to 2013 with 246.000 km already.

When i lived in Spain i went to ille car with my disco 2 and i could see on the computer when different land rover dealers in the UK had serviced it but as dsl says if it has been serviced elsewhere then it will not show at land rover so very hard to say Thumbs Up

So where did the service center find that info if you have no service information.
Go back to the seller

seller is more a reseller and is at 1000 km away.

I payed cash so no real traces and payed already 1500€ on a timing belt change and 600€ on taxes to import the car.

looks like a waste of energy and time.

and I only have myself to blame for it anyway cause I forget to check forehand.

now I just want to be sure.

I love try a dealer here to see what he can come up with.

I thought there might be a non dealer related national database for registration of the mileage like the Nationale autopas in Holland.

This is a quote from another forum member Thumbs Up

"The milage is stored in two other locations as well as the binicle.
LR Diagnostics compares the data stored in the three locations and will flag up an error if they arn't all the same!
I seem to remember that a line appears under the milage for a few seconds when you turn on the ignition if the is an error."

If you use search at top you may well find out more Whistle

well to be honest that's what I thought as well.

I thought it was therefore almost impossible to turn back the clock for that very reason and was therefore not too concerned about the lack of history.

the display shows no mention like that at all for I would have noticed that.

I m now even more puzzled.
the dealer said however it was easy to turn back the clock on modern cars.

I will try to get to the bottom of this.

If it was a Belgium car, the km are traceable. We have to go to the MOT every year and there the odometer is copied and stored in a database. When you sell the car via the official way you have to pass MOT again and they print a form with the complete list of km's and occording dates, this paper should be given to the new buyer.

You can turn back the clocks on a modern car and it is not that hard if you have the right kit and you know what you are doing as is everything what ever technology comes out there is always a hacker of some sort willing to try and break it.Was it not on brewers auto trader thingy or something like that with the guy with the lap top Thumbs Up

I m soooo stupid.

I told the guy not too worry for the new mot cause it would be a waste of his money cause I had to redo it here in France anyway to get it on French plates.

but he offered it so I guess he was not worried about it.

really don't know what to think any more.

I still have the Belgian plates. I might contact a Belgian garage.
