If it was a Belgium car, the km are traceable. We have to go to the MOT every year and there the odometer is copied and stored in a database. When you sell the car via the official way you have to pass MOT again and they print a form with the complete list of km's and occording dates, this paper should be given to the new buyer.

Accessible on line?

I'm not sure, I think only a garage or a MOT station can access this data.

I m soooo stupid.

I told the guy not too worry for the new mot cause it would be a waste of his money cause I had to redo it here in France anyway to get it on French plates.

but he offered it so I guess he was not worried about it.

really don't know what to think any more.

I still have the Belgian plates. I might contact a Belgian garage.

Give it a try, the document is called a "Car pass" (http://www.car-pass.be/) every garage knows about this document because they also enter km's in the system every time they work on a car.
Strange that you have the plates because in Belgium the plate doesn't belong to the car, but stays with the owner for his next car.

I know.
he told me.

he had copies made and assured the car on his name for 5 days so I could drive it home.

my French assurance would not take the car unless the plates where French

got pulled over by the cops twice, but it was ok so they said.

was worrisome nevertheless, hahaha.

I will try calling a station tomorrow.

the plates don't help than, chassis number is needed I guess

Keep us posted. I'm curious if you can get car-pass data without paying for it. Wink

I will keep you posted.

and I don't mind paying for it.

can't wait for tomorrow now.

I was convinced I was screwed.

now I have a tiny bit of hope left it might not be the case.

why try to sell a car in Belgium if they keep track of mileage and you can only sell a car with MOT that displays the history of the mileage.

it beats me, but I still feel very stupid Sad

well the results are in and they are not good.

Car Pass Belgium confirms the displayed mileage is way off.

the seller is nowhere to be found, phone disconnected, payed in cash, well done Roger.

I have his address (I think) but at two times 1000km it's bit of a risk loosing even more money and getting even more frustrated.

so let this be a lesson to ,...... well every buyer out there.

the clock on a D3 CAN indeed be set back, without any signs at all, no warning on the display saying that there is a fault in mileage or something like that.
I thought with 3 different computers to store the info I d be cool.

never to old to be naive I guess.

Embarassed

that's it Geoff.

it runs like a new car, honestly.
it's just I could have spend a few thousand less and have the same one.
Very Happy

but you are absolutely right.
I took my loss, shook my head in amazement about my own absolute stupidity and have to live with the consequences.

I can never sell it again but I'll drive it till I die and try to give it a good retirement day.

it's a compliment to Landrover though to be able to build a car that has run 300.000, sells like one that had only half that and drives like a new one, hahaha. Very Happy

Re drive it til she dies, welcome to the club. Mr. Green Mr. Green

yep.
drive it till she passes away.

hopefully it will be a while.
Shocked

but it's a simple HSE tdv6 7 seater.
3 glass roofs though, autobox and nice beige leather seats.

all in good nick.

a huge difference to 15 years of Defender 110 TD5. hahaha.
