I'd like to add the TMC (traffic monitoring) feature to the navigator. Is this part of the navigator upgrade as per HSE spec' or is it a seperate upgrade?
I'll ask the dealer next week anyway but I thought someone may know or have it already. Perhaps mine has it and I've missed it (very likely ). Thanks. 2005 TDV6 SE Silver/Black Manual + Alpine

hi
TMC comes with the HSE model.
If you have bought the SE then an upgraded navigation system should be specified.
IT WORKS REALLY WELL AND the system has automatically rerouted me on a couple of occasions

Yes TMC is very useful - it works not just when under Sat Nav guidance but also if just the sat nav screen on, it will flag up closed roads etc!! - only problem is that there is no manual to tell you what the extra lines/marks on the screen are meant to represent & they are inclined to change eg a circle with 2 red cars in it one moment, then the next time the same closed road will just be a white circle!!
What we now need is for a link to a GPS speed camera function to ID cameras!!!!

Unfortunately, these toys do not work in North America. The car has it, but we don't even have traffic and news info on the radio.

TMC is OK, but I never feel I can trust it. It has shown roadworks and a closed road in the next village to me ever since I got the car, I know that the works were fininshed and the road re-opened last September!!
Saying that though, it was good today keeping me off the M6!! Could have been there for hours.

I was on the M6 today but managed to avoid the closure by cutting down to J19 from the M54 by reading my trusty old fashioned paper and cardboard map book Cost me a fiver not £1500 as an option
For once the gantry sign boards actually had useful info on them so was able to avoid the closure between J20 and J19 (although one board did say J23-J19).

PS Saying that though... I would love the premium Nav system for the gadget aspect and the 4 x 4 info - looks cool.

Guys,
My HSE has the TMC system on the Sat Nav.
I have to say its one of the reasons I really wanted an HSE model.
In my other car i have a Pioneer Avic X1 headset, with DVD Sat Nav and TMC, I really love it.
I have cheated a bit though, as the manual says you must have the cable for inhibiting navigation entry connected to the handbrake, so it does not allow you to enter info whilst driving.
Oh no it seems mine must be faulty, or perhaps the cable has fallen off, never mind!!
Obviously this allows you to use the best facility, TMC - Show All Traffic Events, at the touh of a button.
This servie is so good, most of the guys who work for me are in the habit of calling me in the car and saying, can you look at TMC for me to see whats on the M25, M4 or M40, whatever, you get the picture.
The prob with the disco is you cant do this unless stationary, it would be rea;ly good if you could use the voice command to do so, but I have failed to get this to work either.
The reason I dont trust mine, is the pioneer system would tell me about situations all the time. It would then allow me to reroute.
I get the occacsional logo on the screen, but not once despit being stuck in the jam has it asked to re route me.
I have the option turend on for Dynamic Navigation, but it has never come on.
Some one mentioned that they do not have the description of the Icons.
They are listed in the Nav system manual on page 58.
If you dont have the nav manual, you can download it from the GTR website.
If any one wants more info please let me know.

Mine asked me if I accepted the new route? I had to stop to check it out before I did.
What scale do you have your screen set to?, I am using 1 mile scale on the main map, and 1/16 on the inset. This seems to show plenty of TMC info, especially in the morning around the M60 etc. It does not re-route me all the time though, and most of the times it does, I can't review the route because I am driving on a motorway.
I have to be perfectly honest and admit to not thoroughly reading the manual yet, but I have picked up most of it as I have gone along.

Gareth,
Yes got my scales set simlar to you, the system does warn you if you zoom out, that not all info will be shown.
I dont have an issue with the icons, they do come up a lot.
Its just that the last time I was stck in traffic on the M40, the system even told me that there was slow traffic on my route ahead, but even then it did not ask em if I wanted to re route.
So Iwas stuck in the traffic between J9 and J10 on the southbound M40, again.

The setting that prevents the touch screen working whilst the vehicle is moving should be switchable.
Enter the Home menu page, then press and hold the display in the centre at the top of the screen for approximately 5 seconds and then press the navigation hard key. A Diagnostic PIN Entry box will appear, type in the access code 753. A Menu screen will be displayed.
Go to the Vehicle Signals screen and turn the speed inhibit setting to off.

Winger,
Many thanks for this.
I did manage to get to the screen, but I seemed to have to press both hard keys to get to it.
I went into the options for the speed inputs, it was set to on/off I think.
However what I could not do was make any changes to the setting of it by using the touch screen, do I need to press another button?
Any help appreciated.
I will start a new thread re the cool menu there!!
Cheers.

Hi,
I too followed the instructions and also cannot alter any of the settings, any help would be much appreciated.
Do you think that there may be different versions of code in use here, each with differring options. The 753 code certainly goes into the menus, but seems to be ready only. I'm wondering it you have to have specific circumstances for these read-only settings to become enabled, such as the engine started, radio off, park engaged etc....
A truely wonder find however and roll on the after-market gizmos.
