Wheel bearing question on parts
Hi
quick question I need a new nearside wheel bearing replacing.
My engineer chap says to buy the bearing as a unit with the ABS sensor! eek (sounds expensive)
as he says the ABS sensors can break when removing them.
Spoke to Land rover today quoted £209.00 for a bearing & £92.00 both plus vat & he says they come in parts not as a hub
Does anybody know if there is a option to buy the complete hub I think what my engineer is saying is buy the whole hub with ABS sensor
I'm confused can anybody shed any light on this for me please, also were is the best place to find the parts?

The original bearings that LR fit are manufactured by Timken and can be purchased for a lot less than £200 from places such as Advanced Factors. If your engineer is recommending a complete hub I would suggest looking for a different engineer.

I suspect your engineer is confusing it with a D2 wheel bearing which comes with the ABS sensor. A D3 one doesn't, it comes as a complete hub/bearing unit. The sensor come out fine, all you need to do is rotate them slightly back and forth with some WD40. If you dive straight in a try and lever it out then there is every chance you could break it.IID PRO

Ok
Thanks for that I know he has done lots of disco 's the TD5 variant I will order the hub assembley tomorrow & suggest as you say working the ABS sensor with WD40 before prizing off
I think I will go with the Timkin unit as anything else looks like false economy
Thanks again all

Make sure he cleans/lubricates the threads that show on the other side of the hub carrier or there is a good chance they will seize break if you try and buzz them out with a windy gun. You will also need a new hub nutIID PRO

They do, but its for the old style drive shaft - if you have the newer type, you need the newer hub nut which is castellated rather than staked. Also available from AF Mark.
