Discovery 3 auto box mechatronic unit

Hi all
Good to find a forum with lots of members and a massive amount of info to hand.

Here we go! I'm proud owner of a 2005 disco 3 which sadly had a gearbox fault recently. I have had body off and done the cam belts and a full service which was not as bad as I thought. Anyway I sourced a decent gearbox with low mileage and plonked it in there. Cut a long story short old gearbox that was removed was left outside workshop and has subsequently gone missing but was not over fussed until body was back on and car in fail safe. Done a little research and am told that I should of removed the mechatronic unit from it before disposing. I now have a fault code saying no communication with gearbox control module. Which is the mechatronic unit which at a geuss is coded through can bus. Can anyone help me is there a way of resolving I'm told by a friend that you cannot re code
Please help me any guidance would be really appreciated. Dan

You need to program the gearbox mechatronic into the system. This can be done with diagnostics.
I'm doing one this week.

I think it needs to be programmed when warm within a specific temp range?

I use IDS VCM.

Go into special programming, select gearbox, & the diagnostics will pick up that it needs programming & will program it to the vehicle. Easy task. I've done it quite a few times now.

You will need to callibrate suspension, transfer box as well.
