Was anyone on here consulted about the D5 ?
During the carefully stage managed new model release, car manufacturers generally use the line "...we listened to what our customers wanted, and here it is..." Or words to that effect.
The majority of comments I've seen on here are either pretty negative,or at best, neutral towards the forthcoming D5,and there are plenty of suggestions of quickly buying the last of the D4's before the model changeover.
I haven't yet spoken to a Discovery owner who was asked for their views.....so back to the original question, aimed at the largest Discovery owners forum....did anyone on here actually get consulted ?"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Don't be daft, they're not going to speak to real customers. Just prey Posh Spice isn't called out of LR design retirement.

The only people LR ask are the snobby types, getting a freebie car and normally end up featuring an article in their glossy magazine about how they saved an Amazonian rain forest or the Ozone layer above the North Pole.

The only things I mentioned to them were...round off the back, ditch the split tailgate, do away with the stepped roof and maybe a couple of other little things.....but I doubt they will take any notice

I don't think they asked anybody as that Gerry McGovern comes across as if he think he knows what's best for everybody

A couple of years ago there was a number of customer surveys asking about current use, desired / non-desired features etc. I filled them out but I must have been a minority of one because I was very firm about function over form.
The stuff they focussed on in the survey was heavily weighted towards mood lighting, WiFi etc. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
2012 RRS SDV6
2008 RRS TDV8
"When you fire that first shot, no matter how right you feel, you have no idea who's going to die! You don't know who's children are going to scream and burn. How many hearts will be broken. How many lives shattered. How much blood will spill, until everybody does what they were always going to have to do from the very beginning: SIT DOWN AND TALK!"
They don't want to know if you want mood lighting or not - just which colour(s). Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC
Freelander 2 2007 HSE Manual Tambora Flame
Previous: FL2 56 reg SE Manual Black (written off )
Disco 3 06 reg B7S Manual Rimini Red
Disco 2 TD5 Y reg ES Manual Blue - Chipped
Several Discovery 300 TDis

I don't think LR are really interested in their small pond of existing customers and what they think.
They are now after bigger fish in the seas!
You just have to look at the Defender situation.
What company in their right mind when making changes to a product, would discontinue without having its replacement available [or even slightly overlapping] when the old one disappears.
No, LR discontinue then dont launch the new variant until a few years down the line [if indeed they do - without their existing customers even knowing what's in store for the future].
Most of these Defender customers will simply move on to other brands and LR don't seem to care!
Same goes for the DS, the D5 ... they don't really care if you like it or not, nor if you move on to another brand.
An absolute appalling and arrogant attitude towards their past loyal customers !...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
