| D3 ride on coils over Air? |
|
Hi,
friend is starting to look for a D3 
he has seen an advert for a car and on checking the pictures it is a base spec on coils and no T.R.
it may suit him but I have never been in a coiler D3 (had D1 and D2) and so no idea what they ride like 
It is a fair distance away so bit of a trek to try it
anyone tried or had both and can provide some feedback please  Transit! 2019

I have both, the air is far superior and the independent suspension really needs it to work as designed, the coiler has a nice enough ride but without a suspension lift is to low and scrapes the rear diff and exhaust pipes on almost any terrain especially if loaded, also this in my opinion makes it less able as a towing vehicle the only thing going for the coiler is simples make less to go wrong, but then nothing has gone wrong with my air either(touch wood)

It was the fact a newer car popped into his price range that he looked at it, not realising it was a coiler, have had a read of Simon.pl's thread !!
Suspecting a spring change may be what's needed as he does do tintenting, not sure if the green laning will continue but would like more ground clearance not less 
Will have another chat and see if he wants to make the trip

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the EAS is the heart and soul of these vehicles - and what sets it apart from anything else in its class. Even if something may perform better in one area, there's no way it'll perform better vs. the EAS. As mentioned above the capability increase in the towing department is exceptional, to the point where I wouldn't want to ever tow without it again - especially because I tow horses instead of boats these days.  They DEFINITELY see a difference though, and trailer so much better since I've been doing it myself with the rovers, long distances especially, there's far less strain and stress on the horses. |'99 Discovery II | 177k mi. | Kinversand | 7 pas, SLS, HK|

I had coiler for 6 years and loved it the minute I have converted to KingSprings. EAS car is almost the same but present D4 is so much different car (more power, auto and refinement) it drives very differently but comfort wise is a bit better especially on very long journeys. Only worries are reliability of system while off roading a bit more then usual.
