Front Drive shaft
Hi all
I have a 2006 d3 SE manual and I have to change the front o/s drive shaft so any tips or tricks to help me along would be greatfully appreciated
Make sure you have the right nut - the new ones are different (Castellated rather than staked)
Breaker bar and levers, big hammers.Mark.

I'm glad I mentioned the nut - nothing worse than getting it to bits and finding out, especially when you don't have another car cos SWMBO has gone out
At least you are local to AF!Mark.

There are not interchangeable either - different threads.
The new one is a slight taper, so it locks onto the shaft, the old one you had to tab once torqued up.
Both are not reusable in my view, though some do.Mark.

you would think the new drive shaft would come with a nut to fit its thread then wouldn't you especially as they are a supposed one hit nutThere is no I in team, but there are five in Individual Brilliance
When I bought new front bearing hub's they came with nuts - old style - which was a pain as I then had to also buy a new style one as one of my shafts is the newer type.
But, yes you would have thought they would come with the new nut.Mark.
