I can recommend Michelin Latitude Tour, if available in your size.
Last very long, low noise.

If thats all your going to do ...then stick with the road tyres ..they are very, very capable 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

My (road tyre) Scorpions were brilliant off-road. Only had trouble climbing out of ruts - which isn't easy with any tyre.Disco 5 HSE Lux

This is a picture of the mud pool (yes, singular ) I played in last weekend at the Wiltshire meet. Those ruts are an average of about 7 inches deep in very soft wet clay - standard part worn road tyres...no problem
As DiscoStu says, only issue is tyre side blocks are pretty smooth and non-aggressive so getting out of ruts is difficult but not impossible.Dr. Ian Malcolm:

are we talking pirelli when saying about scorpiona as i dont think they are cheap at all.
i used to have them on a audi tt and the kumho tyres were a lot cheaper and actually lasted longer and gripped better,i have seen those in discovery size 255 60 18 for about £75 but they have pure road tread
Colway apparently now do an 18" tyre that'll do the job, bound to be cheap
Personally I think you should by the best you can possibly afford, not the cheapest you can get. Those 4 rubber rings are a vital safety component on any car, get crap ones and you could endanger your life and othersThe End

No ...what we are saying is if they (scorpions) are already on the vehicle then don't bother spending extra on additional tyres ..s'all 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Pirelli Scorpions are an excellent road tyre for the D3. Surprising capable in the mud as well. They are quite a soft compound which allows for good grip on the road, but will not last as long as a harder compound.
Personally, I never buy "budget" tyres. The benefits of a good tyre are such that imo saving £20 or £30 a tyre just doesn't make sense.
It always puzzles me that a friend who gets a new £40-50k Merc. every 3 years, buys the cheapest tyres he can.
Great, he maybe saves £150 on 4 tyres. But if he wanted to save £'s WTF doesn't he just buy a cheaper car!

When looking for a tyre make sure it has the correct load and speed rating if buying tyres designed for road vehicles with 18inch rims.
I like Pirellis or Michelin's but as you say they are expensive. one option is that as people change to off road tyres second hand road tyres come up either free or cheap, as an example I gave 5 away for free one new 4 with 7000 miles.

I would echo the words of our correspondent from the Netherlands.
The Michelin Latitude is a fine tyre and is an excellent step forward from the Sychrone. It is cheaper than the Scorpion too.
