Finally a D4 owner... Lasted 48 hours
A week ago last Friday, after much deliberation, I finally purchased a D4. It's absolutely brilliant, however, 48 hours later it's on the back of a recovery truck requiring half a new engine.
It's not costing me anything, LR are fitting it and the seller has been brilliant so far. Once it's all done in another week I'll post up the recommendations.
I'm now sat at home on sick leave staring at my driveway awaiting her return! If you're on the Facebook group, you've probably seen this already

Looks great 8) Pity about the engine, but at least LR are footing the bill Cheers Ian

How can it required half a new engine? Never heard of just half being replaced. Details man, details! Left V or right V, front two and which middle cylinder, L or R or rear two, again L or R middle cylinder.

It probably means it needs a "short" engine ie just the block, pistons and crankshaft, that's what I would guess at Cheers Ian

Yep, exactly that, short engine. Apologies I'm not entirely sure of it, plus the final diagnosis hasn't been done until it's fully stripped down. It seems the crank was starved of oil due to something rotating that shouldn't rotate. 74k miles

No harm but that is grim for a car with that mileage, I'd love a 12MY but it would break my heart if mine suffered this, mind you if LR were fitting the bill it wouldn't be all bad.

I've not even considered asking for a refund, they're rebuilding it with the 'fix', imagine it happened again!
I'll update when I know more next week

Hmmmm, not sure if I would do that. New engine is a strong lure, especially if I'm not paying for it.

Exactly, this issue seems to happen to any 2.7, 3.0tdv6 or sdv6, the newest engines don't have any change to the design, only the rebuilds have the locating lugs that correct the problem, suppose that's just to settle people as its unlikely to happen to the same engine twice. It's quite rare anyway, I'm just one of those lucky people.
Either way, first two days is the optimum time for it to happen, I get the rebuild done for nothing so if anything, it's a free cambelt/major service! I got a really good deal too so selling it and buying another wouldn't solve anything other than cost me more £.
The used car trader I bought from used to work for LR, buys all his LR stock from dealer trade ins, really knows what he's doing. He's taken full responsibility and I'm glad LR are repairing it fairly and not making him foot the bill.
