There is a program that does the lot for you rather than adjusting each individual track, its called Eupod and it's free. Do a search.
I tried to download Eupod last night but didn't have any success. I seemed to end up on sites which showed lots of advertising but nothing much else. I'll try again at the weekend.
I also tried the level adjustment in iTunes on a single file but that didn't seem to have any effect when I played it from my PC through my amplifier (where normally the level is lower than playing music direct from a CD). Do you know whether this level adjustment only affects output when playing from the iPod?

Here's a working link, watch for IE popup blocker kicking in though  i'm pretty sure the level adjustment will only work when tracks are transferred to your iPod

I find that if I transfer the tracks to my laptop, I have to do the level thing again but when I then go from laptop to amp the levels are boosted.
The computer's output has been raised thus it should be louder.
A very good site is Appleipod, you will find it on Groups on Yahoo.com. Found out alot of stuff on there and you can post questions.

Be aware altering the "volume" of a track that is already at the top of it's dynamic range will in most cases just introduce distortion. This isn't really a workaround for the AUX input's lack of relative volume control/gain.

How are you getting on with your Drive+Play?
I was browsing and found this installation on a porsche boxster. They ended up having to put in a ground loop isolator to cut down on hum, but bearing in mind their other installs on the car, I suspect the problem was their set-up, rather than the HK unit.

Interesting. I'm still stalled for time and off to China tomorrow to freeze my n**s off for a while! So I plan to complete the installation in my D3 over Christmas.
I've now definitely decided that the screen will live above the glove box handle and I'll be using the adhesive pads rather than the screw option. I need to find a continuous power feed and an ingnition switched feed near the passenger footwell and finally install the main module there.
That said, I've been using it continually in it's temporary location (stuffed under my seat) without any problems. I'm powereing it from the ciggy lighter behind the centre console and feeding the audio into the Aux socket there. There are no level or noise problems and, all in all, I'm very pleased with it. The control knob operation to flick through tracks is superb and the mounting position behind the park brake is perfect. I've got the screen set to dim out after 10 seconds which I also like. You can also fiddle about with brightness and contrast to set it up to your personal preference.
As soon as I do the final fit, I'll post more photos.

just to let you know i received an i trip unit for my i pod today
pluged it on top of i pod tuned radio in and bobs yer uncle
no messing with dash or leads, just music in yer car that easy
e-bay for £33 inc in-car charger and fire wire

I have one of these. The volume is fine.
I wish it could be integrated though, Land Rover will need to do this soon on new builds, or they will get seriously left behind.
Our Mini has a superb setup, with a plug in point in the glove box, all the steering wheel controls work, and the button 1 to 6 on the head unit let you set-up and control different playlists on the pod, works really well.

Your Mini iPod interface appears to be a CD changer to the stereo (in fact, most retrofits do this)... We don't have that easy of a trick available.  There is a MOST interface available for iPod, but some engineering will need to be done in the head unit to support it. I'm not holding my breath.

Does the Alpine Vehicle hub, coupled to a AV bypass (Part No. PTR-7), and Alpine's iPOD Adaptor / interface not do this for the Discovery /LR3? I now it reproduces the iPOD interface on the monitor - assumed it also gave some key control. I will stand corrected as it might be just only controlled through the IR remote.
I was going to look into this as I have already by-passed the AV and with the vehicle hub, can add computer, DAB, DVD etc.
Might be like all good ideas... there's a flaw I've missed. D3 HSE V8...
