Came back from France yesterday, on the tunnel. Security took about an hour, but then it did the last time I did that trip 2 years ago.
Got an earlier crossing than we had booked, even with the delay through security.
Coming out of UK last week was no problem. Sailed through security, and got a train 1 hour ahead of the booked time.Richard

What security?
Went out via tunnel two weeks ago and no security checks whst so ever apart from a quick look at passports by UK customs and gas check. French customs watching DVD with feet up on desk. Even less coming back. Bit of a joke really.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Just went out and back with p and o from Dover to Calais and vice versa
Crossed back to Dover today early afternoon
Going out no passport checks and coming home both French and uk were checking, straight through then to boarding.
Saw the migrant camps which you don't realise the size of until you actually see but they seemed quite well guarded MY2023 Discovery 5 R-Dynamic 3.0

I flew home from Bordeaux yesterday and security was poor. The terminal was in chaos and no one was in control. Not impressed at all.
I'm going back via Caen today so thanks for the heads up. SWMBO AND I are cycling back to our Dordogne home so I hope we don't have to empty our carefully packed panniers!
Pray, what has flying got to do with the subject of this thread ?
Perhaps cycling will be more relevant for you. It also involved a ferry to Caen. Security and checks in Portsmouth (sorry not France) was tight going over but nothing French side.
We have travelled through many towns where there have been lots of events and festivals over the past few weeks and security has been very tight. Very visible armed police and soldiers. We were in Sarlat tonight and counted over 30 troops milling around the square and main streets in addition to the police - all heavily armed. Many roads also blocked off and this was just an ordinary night.D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

In Paris we have seen very tight security (thankfully) all over the city. At Disney land it was the usual and next door at Marne le Vallee station it was tight.
Calais was a breeze and we saw no impact on our travel time at all. We too had army check inside the tintent, but I am very happy with that

Our site 30km outside of calais had a guard dog on patrol every night, my thoughts are, approach the port during sensible hours and don't stop once nearing the port and you should be OK.
We got home and read the papers and were surprised it was the same road we had just driven down.MY2023 Discovery 5 R-Dynamic 3.0

got swabbed at Dover on way out and way back. Was very quick and didn't mind at all. At the moment this is what is needed to keep us safe. explored the old Mountain roads that zig zag back and forth over the French/Italian Border and also saw Military and cops on those normally deserted border crossings. They sometimes stopped us for a passport check. to be honest it all made me feel quite safe. I feel so sorry for France right now.

Just got back via Chunnel in our large camper but zero extra security on way out or way back. Just usual Gas Locker check. Customs do want to see everybody's face including the kids though.

We did Poole to Cherbourg this time with the Rib and had the cover on it both ways and apart from looking at passports that was it
