Yes it would be, I have noticed a bit of talk of getting a Perth trip together on the board. Maybe this could be the area.
I certainly will be going back down to try some of the old hills I only ever dared go up or down on a motor bike.
I will need to get a proper set of tires first though because it is too wet and the hills too steep for me to get up with the OEM tires. And at the moment i think some of the hills down there would defeat anything without tracks.

Chaps just remember that when there is no traction ...there is no traction ..the D3 is a hefty beast and like all other 4x4's it is not completely infallible to all obstacles. DSC could be your issue here as if left on it will kill your momentum..just be aware that even when DSC is switched 'off' ..it's not really off ..if it still senses that things are too unstable it will kick in albeit at a higher threshold. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

When you turn DSC off you get a yellow triangle with circle symbol appearing in the Tacho display. If the DSC is on (normal state) and the DSC kicks in this light will flash when DSC is activated and TC operates.
This is how mine works anyway.

Yes, that's how mine works too, but without activation of the DSC, there is no indicator for the TC per se, at least, I've never seen it??

I'd like to refer to the following sticky note by Martin (the site owner) which has a pdf document expalining the systems in the D3.

On page 15 of the pdf the document describes DSC/Traction Control as one system and the amber light in the instrument cluster when flashing momentarily indicates the system regulating power and the brake forces,
So it is one in he same and we oly get one light

I understand all that. My point is that if you disable the DSC (as much as you _can_ disable it), there should be no warning light flashing whenever the TC is activated - or at least, that's the way I understand it. Therefore if Phil was getting the flashing light, either he hadn't turned off the DSC, or he had a fault.

I agree with you, I misread your post. When my DSC is "disabled" the light won't flash when it is displayed in the the console. So at least we can say our vehicles operate in similar ways.

DSC was on, in so far as I had not turned it off at all. Maybe I need to start doing so when in low range. I must admit, it is not something I had really thought about until now (the DSC being there and active all the time). With the Pajero, as soon as you selected low range, its DSC was automatically deactivated.
However, on each occasion the car stalled, or got stuck, I didn't notice the DSC warning light coming on in the dash - but I may have been too busy trying to 'coax' the vehicle-on to actually notice it. From some of the previous posts, the DSC kicking in during the wheel spinning is a logical explanation - particularly if it was 'killing power' from the engine at the time. That is the only logical explanation I can think of for the engine stalling in an automatic. And the D3 would have been in a mild yaw situation as I tried to find something for the tyres to bite into. I will try DSC off in future to see if this makes a difference.

I have had the mine stall several times as you described. It was on a very hard hill and after loosing momentum and coming to a halt with all wheels spinning as soon as I took foot of the throttle to apply brakes she stalled. Mine is a 2007 TDV6 auto with rear e-diff. I also found motor would bog down badly and not respond top throttle imputs just when you were at worst point on hill. I suspect this was DSC kicking in and shutting down power as motor definately had plenty more to give. I to reported this todealer at first service and was advised that all of the software in my car was out of date, and they had uploaded the latest versions. Havent had a chance to try it on a trick off road track since but the softeware upload fixed the climate control which previously just would hold a comfortable temp and constantly require temp setting to be altered. It aslo greatly improved the auto shifting particuarly in manual mode, ow it at least ty to obey my commands. So hopeully the software should improve its off road response and abbility.
I can say that on a snow trip turning dsc off made transformed the cars abbility to climb up a snow covered road (Mt Skene Vic) With DSC on car felt heavy and unresponsive and felt like it was going to come to a stop. With DSC off it was hard to imaging a better car and it just kept on going and going and we only came to a stop when road was blocked by 2- 35in simex shod partrols stopped in the middle of the track. So we turned had to turn around just short of the summit. On the way down it was a different storey with DSC being very helpful in keeping car on the track, it might rob you of some fun but it certainly adds a huge saftety margin in terms of keeping car from geeting intoa uncontrolled slide.

Dealer was suprised, and couldnt explain why incorrect software was installed,and simple reloaded entire software to correct latest versions.
