Lowered my Shelf by around 30mm using bolts as in the photos below and the additional clearance makes it a lot easier to get items on to the shelf
Two things:
1) That's a great idea using the bolt and nuts like that to create an "adjustable shelf". Nice job!!
2) This is the first photo I've seen with a shelf in a Disco with a glass roof. Watch out for sun damage on things placed up there, maybe put some type of cover over the glass or at least pull the shade if you've got one.1998 Discovery LSE - Gold, 249,000+ miles, completely stock

Thanks, I did think about using spacers but the bolts and locking nuts work well - I could have used 100mm long coach bolts that would have given more adjustment but I didnt want anything stored on the shelf flying off the top under hard braking

I would like on of these. It would be good if they made an adjustable one so it can fits everyones needs perfectly. The bolts idea is a good solution, but its a bit of a shame it couldn't have been designed with some adjustment.
I guess sometimes, these things just progress and improve as people start to use them!
Shame they are not a bit cheaper as well!! I'm sure they would end up better off if they sold more units at a lower price, than only a few with higher prices etc. Same with the XB baskets as well.

How did I know MrsI would be at work when it arrived!
Quick hide the cardboard and get it fitted, she'll never know.
Found a down side, things tend to jump out of it when bouncing along cobbled tracks. Wedging against the ceiling only works so well.

Could you put a bungee net or something over the top to pull in against the base to stop things moving?

Yes, it always works out well (most times anyway)
Dell, I was thinning about that when I was fitting it, I used to have a bungee cargo net thing for the back for the motorbike, I think those would work on these. I'll have a look to see if I can get a cheap one on eBay and report back

Iggy, most of the trip they have been fine and my torque wrench in its tube acts as a good lip. It's these German cobbled old roads, like the one I'm parked next to atm, that have a way of shaking everything loose. Plus I'd taken the hi viz jacket that I keep up there out & not put it back, that helps jam everything in. Not quite sure I'd use the same "squeeze it all in" approach with the D4's glass roof though.

PS That looks a very handy extra space/shelf between the dog crate and the load lugga shelf. Scope for more purchases me thinks.

Would love to, but with boot tray, dog crate etc, will take me about 1hr to get everything out and back in I'm sure somebody will be along soon though
Del, I keep dog leads, poo bags etc on top of the crate, but always room for more stuff!!!
Just been out to Sainsbury's and am very impressed with the lugga, holds exactly what I wanted, although stuff does move about up there - have bungee'd the socket set down for now until the cargo thing arrives
Very impressed though with it, perhaps a tad expensive, but made to fit perfectly and simple to install
Oh forgot to add, quick delivery, Ordered on the 3rd and arrived on the 5th Iggy/Ieuan

I'll try and get a photo this weekend for you guys, but have to say using the third row seats with load luggage is not recommended! Mantec say 'NO' to this in the instructions and having tried seats up there is no headroom, maybe for a small child but that's a heavy bit is steel above their heads...
Someone tried removing the shelf and leaving brackets in place - gives headroom but easy to whack ones head edge-on the bracket...ouch!
Just for enlightenment, I have the LR cargo compatible version which is a few inches shorter to allow for the swept back angle on the dog guard/cargo barrier. It's quite a tight fit with both fitted, I had to put some sponge rubber between the two to stop chafing/rattling etc.
The load lugga is a handy bit of kit, bought a roll of bungee cord and fittings to tailor make tie downs to suit shelf and whatever contents

Thanks for the help folks. I'm itching to buy one of these to save the clear out required every time I load the mower, strimmer etc to go and cut the grass at my dad's place.However if it's going to make more hassle if I need the third row seats, then I'll just have to think of other things to spend my money on
I did contact Mantec to ask them about this but have not heard back. Given that TinTapper says it states NO in the instructions, I thought it might have been an easy question for them to reply to but, to date, no response
